The Opportunity

RCG is seeking a Mid-Level System Solutions Engineer to support a federal cybersecurity Security, Architecture, and Engineering (SAE) team in Suitland, MD.  This hands-on technical role will support the analysis, engineering, security, and modernization of enterprise IT systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid systems engineering foundation and experience working across technical areas such as systems analysis, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, Zero Trust, and emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).

What You'll Do

  • Support the engineering, analysis, integration, and improvement of enterprise IT systems and solutions.
  • Perform IT systems engineering activities in support of enterprise technology environments.
  • Conduct systems analysis and root cause analysis to identify technical issues and recommend solutions.
  • Support enterprise architecture initiatives and the implementation of secure system solutions.
  • Apply architecture concepts and frameworks, including Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA) and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA).
  • Support cybersecurity architecture activities and the development of technical architecture documentation and diagrams.
  • Assist with assessing and implementing cloud technologies, cloud solutions, cloud security, and cloud architectures.
  • Support cloud environments including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure.
  • Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and capabilities to support systems engineering, analysis, automation, and solution development.
  • Evaluate technical and security issues and assist with identifying appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, engineering recommendations, and related project artifacts.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, cloud, architecture, engineering, and program personnel to implement secure and effective technology solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • Four-year bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering, or 10 years of experience in IT Systems Engineering or IT Security Architecture in lieu of the degree.
  • Experience in IT systems engineering.
  • Experience analyzing technical systems, troubleshooting issues, and developing appropriate solutions.
  • Knowledge of enterprise systems and systems engineering principles.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure system design.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to leverage AI technologies and tools within technical or systems engineering environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation and system diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate technical information and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Must hold CompTIA Security +
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and be eligible to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust.

Preferred Experience

  • Systems analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA).
  • Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA).
  • Cybersecurity architecture and secure system design.
  • Cloud architecture, cloud security, and cloud assessments.
  • AWS, GCP, and/or Microsoft Azure.
  • Architecture and system-diagramming tools such as Microsoft Visio or Diagrams.net.
  • Agile system development or Agile project environments.
  • Process improvement or process re-engineering.
  • Security threat modeling and risk mitigation.
  • Scripting, automation, or software development experience.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, 100% on-site position in Suitland, MD supporting a federal government cybersecurity and enterprise IT environment. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with systems engineering, cybersecurity, cloud, architecture, and other technical personnel.
