Type: Contract

Duration: Short-term, initially 1–2 months

Location: Fully Remote (U.S.)

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

About the Role

Programming.com is supporting a client that operates a municipal plan review platform, and we are looking for an experienced plan reviewer to join on a contract basis. This role is focused on reviewing sample plan sets, validating the accuracy of the platform's AI-generated correction letters, and helping the development team improve the system's overall accuracy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a current or former municipal plans examiner, building official, architect, engineer, or permit consultant to apply their real-world plan review expertise to help refine a plan review technology platform.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience reviewing residential and commercial construction plans in a municipal or jurisdictional setting, and is comfortable working independently while clearly documenting and communicating findings.

Responsibilities

  • Review architectural and structural plans, with MEP, fire, accessibility, and energy-code knowledge strongly preferred

  • Identify code violations, missing information, and inconsistencies across plan sheets

  • Prepare or review detailed correction letters

  • Confirm that correction comments reference the appropriate code section and jurisdiction

  • Review AI-generated correction comments for accuracy, relevance, completeness, and clarity

  • Identify false positives, missed corrections, and incorrect or outdated code citations

  • Compare revised plans against previous correction letters to confirm that comments were properly addressed

  • Clearly explain feedback to both technical and nontechnical team members

  • Document findings and participate in occasional calls with the team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with California jurisdictions and California building codes, including:

    • CBC (California Building Code)

    • CRC (California Residential Code)

    • CEC (California Electrical Code)

    • CMC (California Mechanical Code)

    • CPC (California Plumbing Code)

    • CALGreen

    • Accessibility standards and applicable local amendments

  • ICC certification(s)

  • Municipal plan-review experience

  • Relevant architectural or engineering credentials

Note: Candidates do not need to live in California, but strong experience with California building codes and jurisdictions is preferred.

Engagement Details

  • This is initially a short-term contract engagement (approximately 1–2 months), with potential for extension based on project needs

  • Work is fully remote

  • Candidates should be comfortable working independently and documenting their review findings

  • Occasional check-in calls with the team should be expected
