The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our Cargo and Vehicle Inspection Engineering team in Stoke-on-Trent. This is an exciting opportunity to work on technically complex products throughout the entire product lifecycle, from early-stage concept development and new product introduction through to continuous improvement and manufacturing support.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical designs for large-scale scanning systems and associated equipment. The role offers exposure to fabricated structures, sheet metal assemblies, machined components, hydraulic systems, and electro-mechanical equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Create and develop innovative mechanical design concepts for complex scanning solutions.
Produce detailed 3D models, general arrangement drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
Design fabricated structures, sheet metal components, and machined parts in line with engineering and manufacturing requirements.
Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support production and assembly activities.
Ensure mechanical designs effectively integrate with electrical and other system components.
Participate in design reviews, project kick-off meetings, and customer discussions where required.
Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) through the document control process.
Collaborate with engineering teams in the United States and India and maintain engineering documentation within global PLM systems.
What We're Looking For
Proven experience using SolidWorks for the design of fabricated structures, sheet metalwork, and machined components.
Experience with Autodesk Inventor would be advantageous.
HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent industry experience in Mechanical Engineering.
Good understanding of engineering calculations and their practical application.
Experience with PLM/PDM systems, such as Agile, would be beneficial.
Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication skills.
