Job Title: Senior Systems Manager
Location: New York City or Old Greenwich, CT (Onsite 5 days)
Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Systems Manager to lead and support a hands-on infrastructure and systems environment. This is a player-coach role for an experienced IT infrastructure professional who can manage a small desktop team while remaining deeply involved in day-to-day systems administration, infrastructure operations, security, compliance, and vendor management.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience across Windows and Linux environments, Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, virtualization, file services, endpoint security, PowerShell, and infrastructure operations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being both a technical leader and hands-on engineer and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly accountable environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor a small desktop/support team while remaining hands-on with infrastructure and systems administration.
- Administer and support a predominantly Windows-based environment, with some Linux infrastructure.
- Manage Active Directory (AD) and Microsoft Entra ID environments.
- Manage service accounts, SPNs, application registrations, credentials, and credential rotation.
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online.
- Manage and maintain VMware vSphere environments.
- Support Windows and Samba file servers and associated file services.
- Manage email security platforms such as Proofpoint or Mimecast.
- Support network security infrastructure, including firewalls.
- Work with endpoint/security platforms such as CrowdStrike or Varonis.
- Develop and use PowerShell for automation, administration, and operational tasks.
- Perform regular access reviews and support identity and access management processes.
- Participate in change management, audit activities, DDQs, and compliance-related requests.
- Manage server hardware and participate in data center/server room operations, including power and cooling considerations.
- Manage software licensing, technology vendors, renewals, and related infrastructure contracts.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and systems issues and provide hands-on technical support.
- Collaborate with internal teams, executives, vendors, and other technology stakeholders.
- Travel occasionally to a disaster recovery site or other designated locations when required.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in Systems Administration, Infrastructure Engineering, IT Operations, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server environments.
- Experience supporting Linux environments.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Experience with:
- Service accounts
- SPNs
- Application registrations
- Credential management and rotation
- Strong Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online experience.
- Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere.
- Experience with Windows file servers and Samba.
- Experience with Proofpoint, Mimecast, or similar email security platforms.
- Experience with firewalls and enterprise security infrastructure.
- Experience with CrowdStrike, Varonis, or comparable security platforms.
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
- Experience with IT audits, access reviews, change control, and compliance documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while also leading and supporting a technical team.
- Ability and willingness to work onsite 5 days per week.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:
- eDiscovery experience
- Bloomberg entitlement/access management
- Avaya PBX experience
- AWS/cloud infrastructure experience
- Finance or financial-services industry experience
- Experience with disaster recovery environments
- Vendor and software license management experience
- Experience supporting executive-level users
