Experience: 15+ Years
Employment Type: Contract
About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced SAP WM/EWM Consultant with 15+ years of overall SAP experience and deep specialization in Batch Management to lead the design, configuration, and support of batch-managed warehouse processes within SAP WM/EWM, integrated with QM, MM, PP, and SD modules. This is a senior-level, hands-on role requiring both deep technical expertise and the ability to advise stakeholders on best practices in regulated or process manufacturing/distribution environments (pharma, chemicals, food & beverage, etc.).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, configuration, and rollout of batch management within SAP WM/EWM, including batch-relevant storage type/section/bin determination and batch-specific putaway/picking strategies.
- Architect batch-driven warehouse processes: goods receipt, putaway, internal stock transfers, replenishment, and goods issue for batch-managed materials.
- Design and own batch determination and batch search strategy configuration (COB1/COB2) within warehouse and logistics execution processes.
- Configure and govern FEFO (First-Expired-First-Out)/FIFO putaway and picking strategies based on shelf-life/expiration date for batch-managed stock.
- Lead integration of WM/EWM batch processes with QM (inspection lot-driven stock status, usage decision-based movements), MM (goods movements), PP/PP-PI (staging/backflush), and SD (batch determination in deliveries).
- Own batch split, batch consolidation, and Handling Unit Management (HUM) design in conjunction with batch-managed stock in the warehouse.
- Design and support Quality Inspection Engine (QIE) processes in EWM tied to batch quality status and stock restriction.
- Drive traceability and batch genealogy visibility within warehouse execution, including batch-level Certificate of Analysis (CoA) alignment with outbound shipments.
- Serve as SME to cross-functional and business teams in defining warehouse batch strategies, storage control, and search/sort sequences aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Lead audit readiness and regulatory compliance efforts (GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, ISO) related to batch traceability within warehouse operations.
- Guide testing strategy — unit, integration, and UAT — for batch-related WM/EWM enhancements and configurations.
- Author functional specifications for custom developments (enhancements, BAdIs, RF transactions) and guide ABAP teams through delivery.
- Provide escalation-level production support, root-cause analysis, and resolution for complex batch/warehouse issues.
- Mentor junior consultants and review their configuration and documentation.
- Lead process/design workshops with business stakeholders and present recommendations to leadership.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Engineering, Science, or related field.
- 15+ years of overall SAP experience, with significant depth (8-10+ years) focused specifically on WM/EWM Batch Management, ideally across multiple full-cycle implementations.
- Expert-level knowledge of SAP Warehouse Management (WM) and/or Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), including storage type/bin configuration, RF framework, and warehouse task/order processing.
- Deep hands-on expertise in batch-relevant putaway/picking strategies, batch search strategy configuration (COB1), and FEFO/FIFO-based warehouse control.
- Strong command of integration points between WM/EWM, QM, MM, PP, and SD related to batch handling and stock status.
- Proven experience with shelf-life expiration date (SLED) management, batch split/merge, and Handling Unit Management within warehouse processes.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA EWM (embedded or decentralized) — including ECC WM to S/4HANA EWM migration experience for batch-managed warehouse processes.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory/compliance frameworks (GMP, GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11) as applied to warehouse and distribution operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading functional design and directing ABAP developers on custom batch/WM/EWM enhancements.
- Excellent leadership, client-facing communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- SAP WM/EWM/S4HANA certification preferred.
- Must be based in or willing to work hybrid out of Atlanta, GA.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in a lead or architect role on at least one full-cycle S/4HANA EWM implementation involving batch management.
- Experience with SAP QM batch-driven quality inspection processes (QIE integration).
- Exposure to Digital Manufacturing/MES or Transportation Management (TM) integration with batch-managed goods movements.
- Experience in process manufacturing or regulated distribution industries (Pharma, Chemicals, Food & Beverage, Life Sciences).
