AI Engineer (Java FSD)

Important: This is NOT a cloud infrastructure, Terraform, DevOps-only, or pure cloud engineering role. The primary focus is software engineering and coding.
Key ResponsibilitiesSoftware Engineering

• Build and maintain backend and frontend applications
• Preferred profile:
• 70% Backend
• 30% Frontend
• Full-stack engineers are highly welcome
• Any modern programming language is acceptable (Java, Python, Golang.. etc.)

Platform Engineering
Develop internal platforms and tools for engineering teams, including:

• Self-service platforms
• Reusable APIs
• SDKs
• Shared services
• Engineering frameworks
• Developer productivity tools
• Operational efficiency improvements
• Guardrails and engineering standards

Automation

• Automate SDLC processes
• Release automation
• Engineering workflow automation
• Improve developer experience across the enterprise

AI Engineering
Experience with:

• AI-assisted development
• AI agents (Agentic AI)
• AI-driven engineering solutions
• RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems
• MCP integrations
• AI development frameworks and tools

Required SkillsMust Have

• Strong software engineering fundamentals
• Strong coding ability
• Backend engineering expertise
• System design and architecture understanding
• Experience building reusable components and platforms
• Ability to work across multiple technology stacks

Preferred

• Full-stack development experience
• Angular or React experience (preferred but not mandatory)
• AI/LLM application development
• Agentic AI experience
• RAG architectures
• Cloud knowledge and concepts

Cloud Requirements

• AWS preferred
• Azure or Google Cloud Platform acceptable
• Cloud knowledge is beneficial due to ongoing cloud modernization efforts
• Not looking for cloud-only engineers
• Not looking for Terraform/infrastructure-focused candidates

• Must reside within 60 miles of a Bread Financial office

Certification Requirement
A cloud certification is required:

• AWS certification preferred
• Other cloud certifications may be acceptable
• Certification can be:
• Already completed, or
• In progress at hiring time
• Must be completed before conversion to full-time employment
