Job description

Company Overview

Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across five domains and more than a dozen mission areas. These include airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refueling, special air missions, aerial firefighting, and advanced simulation. We own the whole stack: designing, building, and operating turnkey capabilities that give our partners decisive, asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats.

Our operating model is built around three interlocking pillars. The Support Groups provide a global shared-service – spanning people, finance, platform, operations, legal, and engagement. This frees up our Core Groups, who develop and own mission capabilities end-to-end, to focus entirely on delivery. The Market Groups apply a regional lens, ensuring that our agile and adaptable capabilities remain aligned to the wicked problems that matter most to our partners across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific.

At the heart of our model is a simple but powerful idea: be a true partner with skin in the game. Our partners need effects, not just equipment. By owning the full stack – from the lab to the field – we are able to drive a continuous cycle of innovation that keeps our partners ahead. It's a fast-moving, intellectually demanding environment where talented people are given real responsibility, work on problems that matter, and contribute to an enterprise that is growing quickly and deliberately.

Headquartered in Washington, DC, with facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, as well as Continental Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Group Overview

Metrea is actively building its presence in Australia as part of a deliberate, globally coordinated expansion into the Asia-Pacific region. Our Asia-Pacific Market Group, headquartered in Brisbane with an additional office in Perth, is the enterprise's dedicated regional interface — connecting Australia's national security community with Metrea's full suite of capabilities across three core domains: Aerospace, Electromagnetic & Cyber, and Digital & Synthetic. Metrea is now bringing that same depth of mission expertise and proven operating model to Australia.
Underpinning these capabilities is a global network of Support Groups spanning people, finance, platform, operations, legal, and engagement — ensuring that as we grow in Australia, we do so with the full weight of an established global enterprise behind us.
Metrea's solutions are built for elegance: effective, efficient, and evolving — enabling our partners to scale capacity and achieve asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats.

Position Summary

At Metrea, we're redefining what's possible in aviation.

As we grow our Australian aviation operations, we're looking for experienced and motivated Captains and First Officers to join our Special Air Missions team, operating the Beechcraft King Air 350/360.

Whether you're an experienced special missions pilot, currently flying in commercial or charter operations, or looking to take the next step in your aviation career, we'd love to hear from you.

And this is just the beginning. For pilots joining our King Air operations, we're developing a pathway to progress onto our Bombardier Global Express fleet, including opportunities to undertake the relevant type rating and transition into larger aircraft as our operations grow.

Already qualified on the King Air 350/360? Fantastic. Not yet qualified but have the right experience and aptitude? We still want to hear from you, with aircraft-specific training and qualification pathways available for suitable candidates.

The Opportunity

As a Captain or First Officer, you'll be part of a highly skilled aviation team delivering safe, effective and reliable special mission operations across Australia.

Operating the King Air 350/360, you'll work closely with fellow pilots, mission specialists, aircrew and operational teams to support complex aviation missions, including ISR operations.

Depending on operational requirements, opportunities will include both base-based positions and rotational FIFO arrangements.

What You'll Do

  • Safely operate King Air 350/360 aircraft in accordance with CASA regulations, approved operational procedures and company requirements.
  • Conduct flight planning, pre-flight inspections, flight preparation and post-flight activities.
  • Support specialised ISR and mission-focused aviation operations, including day and night flying.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow pilots, mission specialists, aircrew, air traffic control and operational teams.
  • Monitor aircraft performance, weather, airspace and operational conditions to ensure safe and effective mission delivery.
  • Operate across a variety of Australian environments, including regional and remote locations.
  • Maintain accurate flight records, operational documentation and compliance with applicable aviation requirements.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture and a team environment built on professionalism, accountability and trust.

What You Bring

We're interested in hearing from pilots with a range of backgrounds and experience levels. Specific requirements will vary depending on whether you're applying for a Captain or First Officer opportunity.

Essential Requirements

  • Current CASA Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL(A)) or Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL(A)), with privileges appropriate to the position.
  • Current multi-engine command instrument rating.
  • Current CASA Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate.
  • Demonstrated multi-engine aircraft experience.
  • Flight experience appropriate to the Captain or First Officer position, meeting applicable CASA requirements and company operating standards.
  • Strong understanding of aviation safety, operational risk management and crew resource management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-crew environment.
  • Willingness to undertake King Air 350/360 aircraft-specific training, qualification and checking requirements where necessary.

Captain Opportunities

We're particularly interested in pilots who bring:

  • Significant Pilot-in-Command experience in multi-engine aircraft.
  • Strong instrument flying experience and sound operational decision-making.
  • Experience in commercial, charter, special mission or other complex aviation operations.
  • The flight time, qualifications and operational experience necessary to meet applicable CASA requirements and company command standards.

First Officer Opportunities

We're looking for pilots who bring:

  • Relevant commercial flying experience, with a strong foundation in multi-engine and instrument operations.
  • A commitment to safe, professional and collaborative multi-crew operations.
  • The qualifications, experience and aptitude to successfully complete applicable aircraft training and checking requirements.
  • A genuine interest in developing their career within specialised aviation operations.

Highly Regarded

  • Previous King Air 350/360 experience, including a relevant BE350/1900 type rating.
  • FAA pilot qualifications, ratings or operational experience
  • ISR, surveillance, maritime patrol or other special mission aviation experience.
  • Experience operating in remote, regional or challenging environments.
  • Military aviation or other government aviation experience.
  • Experience working in multi-crew, high-tempo operational environments.

Don't tick every box? If you have a strong aviation background and believe you have the skills and aptitude to succeed in special mission aviation, we encourage you to apply.

Work Authorisation / Security Clearance

Ability to obtain and maintain an AGSVA security clearance and subsequent clearances required by the role.

Our Firmware

At Metrea, our single core value is Rooted in Humility, and our four cornerstone attributes are Entrepreneurial, Systematic, Discerning, and Over-Deliver. These form what we call our Teammate Firmware. Just like technical firmware connects software and hardware, our Firmware is the constant interface between our mission and our people. It defines how we show up, how we work together, and how we solve complex problems.

Our team Firmware creates a web-like, hyper-collaborative, dynamically hierarchical way of working that helps us adapt quickly, communicate openly, and distribute decision-making to where expertise actually lives. It enables groups to self-organize around hard problems, shift fluidly as priorities evolve, and operate with the trust, curiosity, and discipline required in a complex mission space. This foundation allows us to deliver elegant, effective solutions and uphold our purpose: protecting our precious inheritance.
