Business Analyst

Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Convert stakeholder requests (often partially expressed in SQL) into well-defined requirements, user stories, and developer-ready specifications with acceptance criteria.
- Perform data profiling and validation using SQL to confirm accuracy, completeness, and business logic (filters, joins, calculated fields) before development proceeds.
- Partner with architects, developers, and SMEs to define data sourcing, transformations, and rules for BI/reporting features.
- Support data governance, data stewardship, and data quality efforts, including issue triage, root-cause analysis, and documentation of resolutions.
- Maintain clear, current documentation in Jira/Confluence (process/data flows, story details, test scenarios) that reduces rework for dev and QA.
- Facilitate UAT and collaborate with stakeholders to validate outputs, finalize decisions, and drive release readiness.
- Communicate status, risks, and blockers proactively; keep work moving through ambiguity and deadlines.
- Identify and recommend process improvements across analysis, testing, and delivery.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in a Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, BI Business Analyst, or similar role.
- 4+ years of hands-on SQL for analysis and validation (write short queries, read/interpret more complex SQL; comfortable discussing joins, filters, windows/aggregations at a functional level).
- Demonstrated experience translating SQL-literate stakeholder requests into dev-ready requirements and testable acceptance criteria.
- Experience in business intelligence / data environments, including data profiling, data quality checks, and stewardship.
- Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence; solid understanding of Agile delivery practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication; proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional and cross-organizational teams.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical, business, or communications field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of role longevity (e.g., multi-year stints with sustained ownership of reports, governed metrics, or data products).
- Prior involvement with UAT coordination, change management, and stakeholder sign-offs.
- Familiarity with Java/XML concepts and API payloads at a functional level (to aid conversations with developers-no coding required).
- Experience documenting data/process flows (Visio, draw.io) and maintaining clear lineage/metric definitions.
