Job Description

Structural Engineer - Norfolk

Location: Wymondham, Norfolk
Experience: 3-5 years

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and practical Structural Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join an established consultancy based near Wymondham, Norfolk.

This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded engineer looking to develop their technical skills, broaden their design experience and build on their existing knowledge within a supportive team. We are particularly keen to find someone with a varied design background who can be developed further in portal frame design, while maintaining a broad range of structural engineering capabilities.

Key Responsibilities and Experience

The ideal Structural Engineer will have experience across a range of structural design disciplines, including:

  • Steel Frame Design: Experience with steel-framed buildings, with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge of portal frame design.
  • Steel Connection Design: A sound understanding of steelwork connections and their design requirements.
  • Concrete Design: Experience designing concrete elements, including slabs, reinforced concrete (RC) walls and bunds.
  • Residential Design: Experience working on residential projects and a good understanding of their structural requirements.
  • Site Experience: Previous site experience is desirable, alongside a willingness to learn about concrete and steel inspection methods.
  • CAD and Drawings: Good CAD skills, with the ability to produce coordinated drawings from basic sketches and existing topographical and building survey drawings.

We value engineers with a broad technical foundation and a willingness to learn. The aim is to build on your existing strengths, develop your expertise in portal frame design and ensure you remain confident across a variety of structural engineering projects.

The Team and Development

You will become an important member of a close-knit team, working alongside 3-4 experienced structural engineers who will provide technical guidance, support and opportunities for professional development.

You will also help support and mentor our apprentice engineer, who is currently undertaking a degree apprenticeship at Nottingham Trent University. We are looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, sharing knowledge and contributing positively to the development of others.

As a Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of your work, learn from experienced colleagues and continue developing your technical and practical skills.

Location and Requirements

Ideally, you will already live in or around Wymondham, Norfolk, or North Suffolk, within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Our client offers hybrid working.

About You

We are looking for a Structural Engineer who is technically capable, enthusiastic and keen to develop. You will bring 3-5 years of relevant experience, good CAD skills, a practical approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

If you have a broad range of design experience, enjoy learning new skills and want to develop your career within a supportive consultancy in Norfolk, we would be pleased to hear from you.
