Reporting to our Head of Engineering, you'll work alongside our Sydney-based Product and Engineering team to build and scale our growing platform. As our Senior Software Engineer, you'll take ownership of the systems powering the EE portal: our PostgreSQL data model, the event-driven jobs that sync customer data from Shopify, Google and Meta, and the calculations that turn that data into the numbers our customers rely on.

This role sits at the intersection of data, architecture and reliability. With our user base growing, your focus is making sure the platform is fast, correct and recoverable, and that the team can change the system safely and often. You'll also work AI-first and help shape how we use AI to design, build, review and decide.

What you'll own

• Data lands correctly: The data model, integrations and calculations, so customer numbers stay correct and recoverable as volume grows. Critical calculations are tested against a golden dataset and reconciled against Shopify, Meta and Google, with any variance alerted.
• The platform runs reliably at scale: Our AWS foundations, including IaC, observability, performance and load. You'll load test to 3x current customer volume and keep our Daily Equation calculations completing in under 2 seconds.
• Event-driven jobs and integrations: Idempotent processing end to end, with dead-letter queues, replay, and alerting for duplicate and missed runs. You'll also complete core third-party API version upgrades ahead of retirement deadlines.
• Raising the engineering bar: Setting and modelling our standards for ADRs, code review, testing, AI workflow and guardrails, and blameless incident reviews.

How we work

• AI drives how we code, review and make decisions. You'll use spec-driven development, with constraints and acceptance tests defined before work is delegated to AI tools, and you'll know where AI output needs extra human scrutiny.
• Every change goes through a reviewed pull request, with AI-assisted review as well.
• Schema changes ship with zero downtime using expand/contract migrations.
• Releases run weekly, moving towards daily, and 100% of infrastructure is defined in IaC with no console drift.
• Decisions are written down, and incident reviews are blameless.

What you bring

• Deep, hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or an equivalent relational database: schema modelling for growing workloads, reading query plans, tuning indexes and diagnosing lock contention
• Experience running large migrations safely in production, with a bias to de-risk changes and size down releases
• Experience designing and operating event-driven systems and background jobs at scale, with a firm grip on retries, duplicates, ordering and backfills
• In-depth knowledge of AWS, including Aurora/RDS, SQS/EventBridge, and Lambda or ECS
• Experience building third-party API integrations (Shopify, Meta and Google experience is a plus)
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and testing harnesses, and automated tests as part of every change you make
• A proactive, problem-solving mindset, with the autonomy to prioritise, exercise discretion and stay organised in a fast-evolving market
• Strong communication: you can explain a data discrepancy to a customer-facing team in plain language, with the impact and next step
• A habit of working in public, and a genuine appreciation for ADRs and architectural documentation
