Job description

Sand Valley is a golf resort and community settled gently upon 12,000 acres of rugged, prehistoric sand dunes in central Wisconsin. Here, residents and guests will find six world-class golf courses built in harmony with the land: Sand Valley, Mammoth Dunes, Sandbox, The Lido, Sedge Valley, and Commons. Founded in 2016 by brothers Michael and Chris Keiser, the resort is known for its friendly hospitality and a community of golf and outdoor enthusiasts who have been drawn to the raw beauty and serenity of the vast Wisconsin Wilderness.
Beyond premier golf, Sand Valley is a year-round celebration of all the outdoors from fat-tire biking, hiking, and kayaking to ice hockey, skating, or a guided cold plunge. The resort now features a 13,000-square-foot Tennis Center with 16 grass tennis courts and the twelfth Court Tennis facility in the United States. Alongside soul-stirring golf and outdoor exploration, Sand Valley offers a variety of savory dining venues showcasing globally inspired and rustic Wisconsin cuisine.
The Sand Valley team works together to create experiences of a lifetime by asking questions and sharing ideas. With authenticity and a hard-working attitude, Sand Valley helps guide guests through an immersive experience in Wisconsin's natural beauty and away from the demands of daily life.

Position Summary

The Pace of Play Manager helps deliver a welcoming, well-paced golf experience across Sand Valley’s courses by monitoring the flow of play, identifying developing delays, and applying established pace-of-play procedures with professionalism and sound judgment.

This role leads the Ranger Team, coordinates daily on-course coverage, and uses pace-of-play data and Tagmarshal technology to identify trends, resolve challenges, and recommend improvements in partnership with Golf Operations leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    On-Course Operations and Guest Experience

  • Monitor pace of play across the resort’s golf courses, identify potential delays, and apply established procedures to maintain a consistent flow of play.
  • Maintain a visible, approachable on-course presence; communicate respectfully with guests, address slow play and congestion, and resolve concerns without compromising hospitality.
  • Coordinate with starters, golf shops, and Golf Operations to support tee-time intervals, course transitions, group activity, and daily playing conditions.
  • Adjust monitoring and response plans for individual course characteristics, changing weather, tournaments, and peak demand.
  • Ranger Team Leadership

  • Recruit, onboard, schedule, deploy, train, and supervise Ranger Team members, including performance evaluations, ongoing coaching, and corrective action, to ensure consistent coverage and service across the resort.
  • Establish and reinforce Ranger Team standards for guest interactions, on-course monitoring, communication, safety, escalation procedures, and accountability.
  • Communicate daily staffing priorities, course conditions, and operational updates while fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.
  • Technology, Reporting, and Improvement

  • Compile and distribute daily, weekly, monthly, and annual pace-of-play reports to Golf Operations leadership and other designated stakeholders.
  • Analyze pace-of-play data, guest feedback, and incident records to identify recurring bottlenecks and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Use Tagmarshal and related GPS and reporting technology to monitor course activity, maintain reliable records, and support data-informed decisions.
  • Assist with GPS equipment and software setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting; train Ranger Team members on appropriate use and accurate data collection.
  • Recommend adjustments to processes, communication, and on-course practices to enhance course flow and guest satisfaction; perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • Strong guest service, communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills, with sound judgment in challenging on-course situations.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to work independently and prioritize changing operational needs.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, computer applications, and reporting tools; ability to interpret operational data and communicate findings.
  • Professional, approachable manner and availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and variable resort schedules.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Sand Valley’s motor vehicle operating standards.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in golf operations, pace-of-play management, golf course marshalling, or related hospitality work.
  • Experience supervising or training team members and using Tagmarshal or similar GPS-based pace-of-play technology.
  • Knowledge of golf etiquette, tee-time management, and golf course operations.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, grasp, bend, and kneel for periods of up to five hours, including across uneven golf course terrain.
  • Lift up to 30 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and 5 pounds constantly.
  • Operate golf cars and other role-related vehicles or equipment for extended periods as needed; travel between courses and identify safety concerns.
  • Use two-way radios and pace-of-play technology while monitoring activity throughout the golf courses.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made in accordance with applicable law.

Working Conditions
