Solution Architect (Public Sector / Government Programme)
SFIA Level: 5/6Location: Telford (2 days per week initially, reducing to 2 days every 2 weeks once established)Duration: 6 monthsRate: £625-£675 per dayClearance: SC Eligible
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to join a large-scale public sector transformation programme. This role will play a key part in driving solution design and delivery across a complex application modernisation initiative.
You will take ownership of end-to-end solution architecture, working closely with delivery teams and stakeholders to ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and successfully transitioned into live service.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the solution design throughout the full delivery lifecycle
- Lead application modernisation initiatives within the wider programme
- Drive the development and documentation of high-quality solution designs
- Ensure all solutions align with architecture governance and best practices
- Collaborate with agile delivery teams and architects across all phases
- Act as the technical authority, working through design decisions and challenges
- Engage confidently with senior stakeholders (internal & external)
- Manage relationships with vendors and third-party providers
- Oversee technical problem resolution and ensure delivery aligns to agreed specifications
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect within complex programmes
- Strong background in application modernisation and cloud migration
- Experience working with both legacy systems and modern cloud ecosystems
- Knowledge of technologies such as:
- AWS, Azure
- Kubernetes, HELM
- Java, JavaScript
- Oracle, MySQL
- Experience working in agile environments across full delivery lifecycles
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to act as a trusted advisor
- Experience working within public sector or regulated environments (desirable)
