Reactive Maintenance Engineer - Highway Drainage
- Location: Manchester
- Job Type: 1-year contract, Hybrid
- Rate: £40 per hour PAYE
We are seeking a Reactive Maintenance Engineer for Highway Drainage to lead initiatives in resolving long-standing access issues that have hindered highway maintenance. This role involves coordinating with multiple contractors to ensure efficient completion of minor works such as gully cleansing and street cleansing.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage and coordinate highway maintenance activities, ensuring all contractors work together to complete tasks efficiently.
- Oversee traffic management, including temporary on-street parking restrictions and communications.
- Monitor progress and maintain the highway asset inventory on the Alloy Causeway platform to support future maintenance planning.
- Engage with the community and manage onsite coordination, traffic arrangements, temporary road closures, and permits to ensure works are delivered efficiently.
- Supervise the works onsite, ensuring compliance with all regulations and standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in managing highway maintenance, stakeholders, and competing priorities, ideally in Gully Cleansing or Highways.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and operational coordination skills.
- Knowledge of highway maintenance, drainage, traffic management, and local authority delivery.
- Practical problem-solving, reporting, and performance management experience.
- Experience using Alloy Causeway and GMRAPS for asset management, permits, and traffic management approvals.
- Degree/MSc in Civil Engineering, or ONC/HNC in highways/civil engineering.
- Ability to manage mini projects from concept to completion, including minor scopes and minor designs.
