Title: Senior Data Scientist

Location: Rockville, MD or McLean, VA (Hybrid)

Contract: 6+ month Contract with extension

Role Overview

• The role sits within the Technology organization supporting the Surveillance Data Science group.
• The team focuses on developing prototypes and analytical solutions in Python to support surveillance modernization initiatives.
• The work requires collaboration with both technical teams (engineering, data science) and business stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop data science prototypes and analytical models in Python to support surveillance use cases.
• Work extensively with big data and open-source tools to explore and develop new analytical approaches.
• Build visualizations and dashboards (Plotly, Plotly Dash) to communicate insights clearly to business stakeholders.
• Translate complex analytical outputs into clear narratives and actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to transition prototypes and analytical artifacts into production-ready solutions.
• Ensure code quality and maintain a production-oriented mindset when developing models and tools.

Work Allocation

• 80% of work is focused on assigned projects and business-driven initiatives.
• 20% of time is allocated to research and development, exploring new technologies and innovative approaches in data science.

Technical Environment

• Python (expert-level proficiency required)
• Cloud infrastructure experience
• Open-source data science ecosystem
• Visualization tools (Plotly, Plotly Dash)
• Big data platforms and tools such as Domino

• Strong ability to communicate complex analytical work to both technical and business audiences.
• Ability to tell compelling stories with data, turning analytical insights into cohesive narratives.
• Demonstrated curiosity and interest in the financial services or surveillance domain (direct experience not required).
• Flexibility and adaptability to work across evolving use cases and emerging technologies.
• Focus on building impactful solutions that provide measurable business value and can move into production.

Interview Process

• Two interview rounds with a mix of data scientists and engineers.
