Job Description

Company

Credit Genie is a mobile-first financial wellness platform designed to help individuals take control of their financial future. We leverage artificial intelligence to provide personalized insights and are building a financial ecosystem by offering tools and services that provide instant access to cash, and building credit. Our goal is to empower every customer to achieve long-term financial stability.

Founded in 2019 by Ed Harycki, former Swift Capital Founder (acquired by PayPal in 2017). Backed by Khosla Ventures and led by industry pioneers from companies such as; PayPal, Square, and Cash App, we are well positioned to build the future of inclusive finance through cutting-edge technology and customer-centric solutions.

Overview

The Director of Compliance manages and maintains the company's compliance program, ensuring regulatory and legal adherence while enabling the business to build consumer-facing financial products efficiently. Reporting to the Head of Legal, this person translates compliance strategy into day-to-day execution and helps integrate regulatory requirements into product and business decisions without unnecessary friction. Because our products are used directly by consumers, they keep consumer protection, fair treatment, and disclosure obligations at the center of the compliance program.

This person is responsible for the effectiveness of the compliance program as it adapts to regulatory developments, business growth, and product expansion. They give the Head of Legal and senior management clear visibility into the company's compliance posture: reporting on program performance, risk trends, and emerging regulatory issues, and helping prepare materials for the Board of Directors.

We're looking for a hands-on partner to product, engineering, design, and operations teams, someone who embeds compliance into how consumer-facing products are built and how customers experience them, balancing risk management with a practical, scalable approach that supports innovation while maintaining regulatory integrity.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and operate a compliance framework that allows the company to build and scale consumer financial products within legal and regulatory guidelines.

  • Track regulatory developments across consumer finance and adapt the compliance program to stay ahead of potential challenges.

  • Own compliance review of consumer-facing touchpoints — product flows, disclosures, marketing, fee structures, and customer communications — to ensure they meet UDAAP, fair lending, and disclosure standards.

  • Support engagement with regulators, industry groups, auditors, and financial institution partners under the direction of the Head of Legal.

  • Build scalable compliance processes that grow with the company's expansion into new markets and product lines.

  • Work hand-in-hand with product, engineering, and design teams to embed compliance into the product design process early, not just as a final approval step.

  • Advise on structuring products to balance compliance with customer experience and market competitiveness.

  • Help manage consumer complaint monitoring and remediation, using patterns in customer feedback to identify and address compliance risk.

  • Keep compliance processes lightweight and efficient, reducing operational friction.

  • Prepare clear, data-driven compliance reporting on program effectiveness, regulatory trends, and key risk areas to inform management decisions and support Board reporting.

  • Help foster a compliance-minded culture where teams see regulations as guardrails for smart innovation rather than roadblocks.

  • Educate employees on practical compliance principles rather than overwhelming them with rigid policies.

  • Work cross-functionally with legal, risk, finance, and operations to align compliance activities with business objectives.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in compliance, legal, or risk management roles within fintech, financial services, or adjacent regulated industries, with meaningful time spent on consumer-facing financial products.

  • Track record of building or scaling compliance processes in product-driven, fast-paced environments, ideally at a Series A–C stage and/or technology company.

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. consumer financial regulations on the federal and state level, including UDAAP, TILA/Reg Z, EFTA/Reg E, FCRA, and requirements relevant to cash advances, lending, credit products, tradelines, and payments.

  • Practical understanding of consumer protection principles — clear disclosures, fair treatment, and complaint handling — and how they apply to digital product experiences.

  • Experience supporting or implementing AML/KYC programs, with knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), OFAC requirements, and FinCEN guidance.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations pragmatically, enabling compliant solutions that support innovation and user experience.

  • Experience working with regulatory bodies, auditors, and financial institution partners, with a credible communication style.

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with product, engineering, legal, and operations to embed compliance into the product lifecycle.

  • Familiarity with tooling for transaction monitoring, case management, and reporting.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey compliance risks and requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Bachelor's degree required; JD, CRCM, or other relevant certifications a plus.
