A leading global natural resources organization is seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Counsel - Project Development & Permitting to support a landmark infrastructure and resource development project in Arizona. This is a rare opportunity to play a strategic role in the advancement of a large-scale project with significant economic, regulatory, environmental, and community impact.
Reporting to senior legal leadership, this attorney will serve as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, providing practical legal guidance across project development, permitting, regulatory compliance, litigation, environmental matters, land use, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice to project leadership and cross-functional business teams.
- Advise on project development, environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, land use, and operational matters.
- Support legal aspects of large-scale infrastructure and natural resource development projects.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of commercial agreements and legal documents.
- Identify legal risks and develop practical solutions that align with business objectives.
- Support litigation, regulatory proceedings, administrative matters, and dispute resolution efforts.
- Collaborate with environmental, government affairs, community relations, permitting, and operational teams.
- Assist with stakeholder engagement strategies and external relationship management.
- Deliver legal training and guidance to executives and employees on key legal and compliance issues.
- Monitor legislative, regulatory, and legal developments that could impact project activities.
- Partner with internal and external counsel to ensure consistent, efficient legal support across the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
- Ability to obtain Arizona licensure or in-house counsel registration within one year of employment.
- 10+ years of legal experience with a law firm and/or corporate legal department.
- Prior in-house legal experience preferred.
- Significant experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Natural resources and mining
- Energy and infrastructure development
- Environmental and regulatory law
- Land use and permitting
- Administrative law and regulatory litigation
- Demonstrated experience supporting major projects involving complex permitting and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong understanding of environmental compliance and stakeholder management.
- Ability to provide strategic, business-oriented legal advice in a complex operating environment.
- Proven leadership skills and strong cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
