About the Job:

This is a hands-on role that will help shape SmartAsset’s brand presence and online reputation among both consumers and the RIA industry.

Your primary responsibility will be to research and produce personal finance data studies and conduct media outreach to win coverage of your work. You must be comfortable sourcing and analyzing data sets and developing novel insights from them. A traditional PR or communications background is not required. What is required is the ability to find a defensible story in a dataset, write it cleanly, and get a reporter to care.

You will also oversee reputation management across key digital platforms and forums, working closely with Compliance. Lastly, you will help execute our organic social strategy across LinkedIn and other social media.

Responsibilities:

  • Brand Journalism
    • Write several original data studies per month, from hypothesis and data sourcing through final draft
    • Pitch data studies to trade, financial, and consumer press; track and log placements
    • Edit data studies produced by other team members for accuracy, clarity, and pitch-readiness
    • Interpret and represent data accurately - including in follow-up conversations with reporters
  • Digital Reputation
    • Track comments and feedback regarding the SmartAsset brand across the web. Work with Compliance to draft replies to both consumers and financial advisor customers.
    • Facilitate online dialog among financial advisor customers in high visibility forums such as Reddit regarding SmartAsset products and services
  • Social Media
    • Own content creation, publishing, and performance tracking for SmartAsset's X and LinkedIn presence
    • Adapt data studies and company news into channel-native formats for a wealth management audience
    • Report on engagement and reach; identify what is working and reallocate effort accordingly
  • Corporate Communications
    • Environmental scanning: monitor competitor announcements, trade press narratives, regulatory developments, and industry conversation; surface findings to the PR and marketing teams on a regular cadence

Skills/Experience you have:

  • 2-4 years of experience in a public-facing writing role — PR, communications, journalism, content marketing, or wealth management marketing
  • Demonstrated ability to write publishable copy on a deadline; a portfolio of published or placed work
  • Comfort interpreting and relaying data accurately (think: percentage versus point; median versus mean) and the discipline to check a number before it goes to a reporter
  • Working fluency with spreadsheets; ability to take a raw dataset and find the story in it without hand-holding
  • Familiarity with personal finance, fintech, wealth management, or financial advisory subject matter
  • Ability to engage target demographics and maximize exposure on LinkedIn and X
  • Familiarity with LLMs across multiple use cases — research, drafting, editing, and workflow automation
  • Familiarity with SEO fundamentals, particularly as they relate to earned backlinks and referring domain authority
  • Basic video and graphic editing with tools like Canva
  • A thorough, thoughtful, and curious researcher who works independently and ships on schedule

Skills/Experience preferred:

  • Experience pitching cold and building reporter relationships from a standing start
  • Experience producing original research or data-driven editorial at volume
  • Experience operating in a compliance-reviewed environment (financial services, healthcare, legal) and managing content through an approval workflow
  • Familiarity with media monitoring, outreach, or list-building software (e.g., Yesware, Cision, Muck Rack)
  • Familiarity with AI answer-engine visibility and how brands are cited in LLM outputs

Interview process may include: Recruiter Screen → Hiring Manager Interview + Work Sample Submission → Team Interview → References → Offer + Background Check

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to communicate via phone calls and/or video conferences

Available Benefits and Perks:

  • Fully Remote Work: All roles are fully remote within the contiguous U.S., giving you flexibility to do your best work from where you thrive.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple Medical, Dental, and Vision plan options through trusted national carriers—so you can choose what fits your needs.
  • Life & Disability Protection: Company-paid Life/AD&D coverage, with options to add supplemental life and disability plans for extra peace of mind.
  • Financial Wellness: 401(k) with employer match, pre-tax savings through FSA and HSA options, and equity packages offered for every role.
  • Time Off That Works: Generous vacation, sick, and parental leave policies—because balance matters.
  • Additional Perks: Pet insurance, home office stipend, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
