Job description

The MPS/MRP Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, analyzing, and executing the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process to ensure production schedules align with customer demand, sales forecasts, inventory objectives, material availability, and manufacturing capacity. This role requires an experienced, self-directed professional who can independently identify and resolve planning issues, anticipate material and capacity constraints, and coordinate cross-functional activities to maintain production flow and meet customer delivery commitments.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter capable of managing competing priorities, making sound decisions, and driving results with limited supervision or oversight.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Develop, maintain, and execute the Master Production Schedule to align customer demand, sales forecasts, inventory targets, and manufacturing capacity.
  • Analyze MRP messages, exception reports, demand changes, and supply constraints; determine and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule accuracy and stability.
  • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP planning data, including production schedules, planned orders, lead times, lot sizes, safety stocks, and other planning parameters.
  • Monitor material availability and production readiness, proactively address shortages, and coordinate with purchasing, production, inventory control, and customer service to resolve scheduling conflicts and support on-time delivery.
  • Track schedule attainment, customer service, on-time delivery, inventory levels, and schedule adherence; identify root causes of recurring issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve planning accuracy, schedule stability, material availability, inventory optimization, and operational efficiency.
  • Independently prioritize daily responsibilities, manage competing demands, and follow assignments through completion with minimal direction.
  • Escalate significant risks and issues to leadership with supporting analysis, recommended solutions, and potential impacts.
  • Maintain accurate planning records, reports, and documentation to support operational reviews and decision-making.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. Stop work when unsafe conditions exist or continuing could create a safety risk.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in production planning, master scheduling, MRP, or supply chain planning within a manufacturing environment; or a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in Master Production Scheduling (MPS), Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and production planning within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and experience analyzing large data sets and developing meaningful reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate complex planning issues clearly.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • APICS/ASCM certification, such as CPIM or CSCP, is preferred.
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and manage responsibilities with limited supervision.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, manufacturing lead times, bills of material, routings, inventory control, supplier lead times, and capacity planning.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify trends, assess risks, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond effectively to changing conditions, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork, workplace safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
