Job Description
Medical Oncologist (MD/DO) – Inpatient and Outpatient
Position Summary
The Medical Oncologist provides comprehensive cancer care across inpatient and outpatient settings. This role includes evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with malignant and hematologic conditions, delivery of systemic cancer therapies, coordination of multidisciplinary care, and longitudinal follow-up throughout the cancer care continuum using evidence-based, patient-centered practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage patients with solid tumors and/or hematologic malignancies
- Provide outpatient oncology clinic care including new consultations, active treatment management, and survivorship follow-up
- Provide inpatient oncology consultation and management for hospitalized cancer patients
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy, and supportive care
- Monitor treatment response and manage therapy-related toxicities and complications
- Collaborate with radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, radiology, palliative care, and other specialists
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and care planning conferences
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, and goals of care
- Coordinate transitions of care between inpatient and outpatient settings
- Participate in on-call coverage for oncology services as required
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
- Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, or clinical staff as applicable
- Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program
- Completion of an accredited Hematology and/or Medical Oncology fellowship program
- Board-eligible or board-certified in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology
- Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
- DEA registration or eligibility

Work Environment
- Outpatient oncology clinics, infusion centers, and hospital inpatient units
- Schedule includes a combination of clinic time, inpatient service, and call coverage depending on practice structure
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout clinical environments
- Manual dexterity for examinations and office-based procedures
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and treatment monitoring
