Location: Atlanta, Georgia (Onsite)
Role Overview
This position is for an Embedded Real-Time Software Engineer responsible for developing hard real-time embedded systems software. The role involves designing, implementing, and testing solutions that execute on limited-resource hardware. The engineer will develop software that interfaces with real-time operating systems, device drivers, and board devices, working as part of a broad team to innovate new concepts and execute research in the national interest.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, test, and develop software packages to meet system requirements.
  • Develop and maintain software and scripts to support embedded software development and processes.
  • Influence embedded software development processes.
  • Apply expertise in embedded systems to define requirements and develop embedded software designs.
  • Author technical reports and presentations.
  • Lead and/or contribute to white papers and proposals.
  • Provide technical leadership to development teams.
  • Develop software for military embedded systems applications.
  • Develop software requirements and design using approved coding standards.
  • Provide software development estimates and create technical presentations.
Required Qualifications
Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field with 9 years of related experience.
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field with 7 years of related experience.
  • A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field with 4 years of related experience.

Experience:
  • Experience developing software for complex military systems using a disciplined process.
  • Experience developing real-time software.

Technical Skills:
  • Software engineering experience developing in languages such as C/C++ and/or Ada.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing software for integrated electronic warfare and/or sensors systems.
  • Experience with the development of secure and/or safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with avionics data buses (e.g., MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, Ethernet, RS-422), tactical data links, and military radios.
  • Experience developing avionic systems on military aircraft.
  • Experience with military-relevant open software standards and frameworks.
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized technical teams.
Additional Information
Travel requirements are between 10% and 25%.
