Software Engineer - Mobile App Developer

Build technology changing the future of farming

What if the mobile app you helped build could change how farmers manage livestock?

At eShepherd, we're redefining livestock management through virtual fencing technology. Bringing together connected devices, cloud platforms and mobile applications, our technology helps farmers manage livestock more effectively while improving productivity, animal welfare and environmental outcomes.

As part of Gallagher, we combine the innovation and pace of a growing technology business with the backing and global reach of an established organisation.

We're looking for a Software Engineer - Mobile App Developer who's in the early stages of their career and ready to take the next step.

Why this role is different

Our mobile app is an important part of how customers interact with eShepherd technology in the field.

You'll help develop features that allow farmers to manage livestock remotely, monitor what's happening and make informed decisions wherever they are.

This is an opportunity to work on more than traditional app development. You'll gain exposure to connected devices, IoT, cloud services, real-time data, mapping and geospatial technology, while learning from experienced engineers across multiple disciplines.

You'll have room to contribute ideas, take ownership and see the technology you build being used in the real world.

What you'll be doing

Working within our engineering team, you'll help develop and enhance our React Native application across iOS and Android.

You'll:

• Build and enhance mobile features used by customers in the field

• Write clean, reliable and maintainable code

• Work with React Native, JavaScript and TypeScript

• Integrate with APIs, cloud services and connected devices

• Collaborate with engineers across Mobile, Cloud, Firmware and Hardware

• Improve app performance, reliability and user experience

• Solve interesting challenges involving connectivity, mapping and remote environments

• Contribute to features from concept through to release

What we're looking for

You don't need to know everything already. We're looking for someone with good technical foundations, curiosity and a genuine desire to grow.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• Around 2+ years' experience in software or mobile application development

• Commercial experience with React Native

• JavaScript and/or TypeScript skills

• An understanding of iOS and Android development principles

• Experience with REST APIs

• Familiarity with Git and Agile development practices

• A collaborative approach and willingness to learn

• Full working rights in Australia

Experience with Firebase, mapping/geospatial technology, Bluetooth, IoT, CI/CD or cloud platforms would be a bonus, but isn't essential.

What's in it for you?

• Build technology that solves genuine real-world problems

• Learn from experienced engineers across mobile, cloud, hardware and firmware

• Gain exposure to IoT, connected products and emerging technology

• Grow your technical capability and take on greater ownership

• Work in a modern Melbourne office with a collaborative team

• Be part of a globally growing technology platform

• Get the backing and stability of Gallagher with the pace of a technology business
