AI Engineer

A fast-growing, venture-backed technology company based in Chicago is seeking a Software Engineer to help build and scale a next-generation data platform designed to make it easier for businesses to manage and extract value from complex, unstructured data. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity in downtown Chicago, where you'll work with technologies including Node.js, React, Python, and cutting-edge AI tools. Required Skills & Experience

• Solid software engineering fundamentals, with the ability to read, evaluate, and maintain clean, reliable code
• Hands-on experience with modern web technologies such as Node.js, React, and/or Python
• Versatility to contribute across multiple layers of the technology stack
• Practical experience using AI-powered tools in software development, or a strong interest in incorporating them into engineering workflows
• Comfortable navigating a fast-moving, evolving startup environment where priorities and challenges can change quickly

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience developing or contributing to AI- and LLM-driven applications
• Background in data engineering, data processing, or working with large and/or unstructured datasets
• Familiarity with technologies such as Spark, Scala, and cloud-based data platforms
• Prior experience working in a startup or rapidly scaling technology company
• Strong interest in system architecture, product ownership, and improving engineering workflows

What You Will Be Doing Tech Breakdown

• 30% Product & Feature Development: Build and ship new functionality with the support of AI-assisted development tools
• 25% System Design & Architecture: Design scalable systems and make key technical and architectural decisions
• 20% Data & Platform Engineering: Develop and improve data pipelines, platforms, and underlying systems
• 15% AI & Engineering Workflow Optimization: Experiment with AI tools and improve development processes and team efficiency
• 10% Infrastructure & DevOps: Support cloud infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, and overall system reliability

Daily Responsibilities

• 60% Hands-On Engineering & Problem Solving: Build, debug, and ship solutions using AI-augmented development workflows
• 20% Architecture & Technical Direction: Shape system architecture, technical priorities, and long-term engineering strategy
• 20% Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the founders, engineering team, and go-to-market functions to align technical execution with business goals
