We are currently looking to recruit an Environmental Advisor to support our Isle of Skye project, based in Fort Augustus in the Scottish Highlands. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in environmental management within the construction industry. We welcome applications from graduates and early-career professionals who can demonstrate a genuine passion for the environment, a willingness to learn, and a practical approach to problem-solving.

Working closely with site teams, subcontractors and environmental specialists, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental requirements are understood and implemented on site, helping us deliver the project responsibly while protecting the surrounding environment. This is a site-based role and the successful candidate must be willing to be based in Fort Augustus and work within a remote project environment in one of the UK's most spectacular landscapes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of project environmental requirements, management plans and permit conditions.
  • Help translate environmental commitments and compliance requirements into practical actions for site teams.
  • Build positive working relationships with project staff and subcontractors to promote good environmental practices.
  • Carry out environmental inspections and site monitoring activities, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, project commitments and company standards.
  • Support ecological protection measures, pollution prevention controls, waste management and sustainability initiatives across the project.
  • Assist with environmental reporting, record keeping and the investigation of environmental incidents and near misses.
  • Support carbon reduction and sustainability initiatives on site.
  • Deliver environmental awareness briefings and toolbox talks where required.
  • Help maintain compliance with Keltbray's Environmental Management System and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with environmental specialists and project teams to drive continual environmental improvement.

What We're Looking For

Above all, we are looking for somebody with the right attitude, strong communication skills, practical common sense and a genuine enthusiasm for protecting the environment.

Essential

  • Passion for environmental management and sustainability.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to engage confidently with construction and operational teams.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach with good attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within an environmental role.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to be site-based in Fort Augustus for the duration of the project.

Desirable

  • Degree or qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geography, Ecology, Sustainability or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in construction, infrastructure, environmental management or site operations.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and environmental best practice.
  • Membership of, or desire to work towards membership of, a relevant professional body such as IEMA.

Why Join Keltbray?

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience on a major infrastructure project while living and working in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. You'll be supported by experienced environmental professionals and given the opportunity to develop your knowledge across ecology, pollution prevention, sustainability, carbon reduction, waste management and environmental compliance.

If you're passionate about the environment, enjoy working with people, and want to help make a real difference on a major construction project, we'd love to hear from you.
