Part Time Reading Tutor (Special Education Experience Required) – Sayville, NY

The family of a sweet, active, and social 5th grader with autism, ADHD, and anxiety is seeking a patient and experienced reading tutor for focused 1:1 sessions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education to help build reading skills and confidence in a supportive, engaging environment.

Schedule:

• 1-2 hours per week
• Availability - Fridays: Anytime after 4:30 PM or Saturdays: Between 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Option for additional hours for a sibling on Saturdays

• The family values patience, kindness, and a caregiver who genuinely enjoys connecting with children and making learning fun.

Responsibilities:

• Provide targeted 1:1 reading instruction aimed at advancing reading skills toward grade level.
• Utilize patient, encouraging teaching methods tailored to a child with autism, ADHD, and anxiety.
• Integrate creative reading techniques and leverage the child's interests to keep sessions engaging.

Requirements:

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring reading to children with special needs or a background/certification in Special Education.
• Patient, kind, and adaptable personality with strong skills in supporting children with neurodiverse learning profiles.

Preferred:

• Degree or credentials in Special Education or Reading Education.
• Prior experience as a reading specialist/tutor.  

Compensation:

• $35-40 per hour
