Job Description

We're recruiting for an experienced Senior Electronics Engineer to join an established engineering organisation specialising in advanced electronic systems for defence and security applications. This is an excellent opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, developing sophisticated electronic solutions within a highly skilled, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Both permanent and 12-month fixed-term contract options are available, offering flexibility depending on your circumstances and career preferences.

The Opportunity

You'll play a key role in the design, development and ongoing improvement of complex electronic systems, working across technologies including EMC, power management, servo control, processor interfacing and communications.

Working alongside experienced electronics, mechanical and software engineers, you'll take ownership of electronic designs from initial concept through to testing, validation and manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analogue and digital electronic circuits, including multi-layer PCB designs.
  • Produce and maintain PCB layouts, schematics, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation.
  • Manage electronic component obsolescence, identifying suitable alternatives and implementing redesigns.
  • Conduct design reviews, verification, validation and electronic system testing.
  • Troubleshoot complex electronic issues and support manufacturing and production teams.
  • Ensure designs meet EMC/EMI requirements and relevant industry standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external suppliers.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong commercial experience in electronics hardware design.
  • Proven expertise in PCB design and multi-layer board layouts.
  • Proficiency with Altium, OrCAD, KiCad or similar electronic design tools.
  • Solid understanding of analogue and digital circuit design.
  • Experience with component obsolescence management and lifecycle planning.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI principles and electronic compliance.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable Experience:

  • Defence, aerospace or other highly regulated engineering environments.
  • Motor drives, servo control or power electronics.
  • Simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, LTspice or Python.
  • FPGA hardware and VHDL knowledge.
  • Designing electronics for harsh operating environments.

Salary & Benefits

Permanent: £50,000–£60,000

12-Month FTC: £52,000–£62,000

Benefits include:

  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • 37.5-hour working week with lunchtime finishes on Fridays.
  • 28 days' annual leave and Christmas closure.
  • Employer pension contributions matched up to 5%.
  • Health cash plan, income protection and life assurance.
  • Excellent learning and development opportunities.
  • Additional employee wellbeing and reward schemes.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of the projects, applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance, including being able to demonstrate at least five years of UK residency.
