COMPENSATION: $36 - $46 HOURLY
Role Overview
This employer is seeking a skilled CAD Technician to design and lay out complex, multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs) ranging from 4 to over 16 layers. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to translate schematics into optimized board layouts while ensuring signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal performance. This role requires meticulous attention to detail to manage design revisions and maintain library components within a professional engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Design and lay out complex, multi-layer PCBs (4-16+ layers) using Altium Designer, from schematic capture through production release.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to translate schematics into optimized board layouts, ensuring signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal performance.
• Perform component placement and routing for high-speed digital, mixed-signal, and power electronics designs.
• Define board stackups, impedance-controlled trace geometries, and via structures in coordination with PCB fabricators.
• Create and maintain component libraries, footprints, and schematic symbols in Altium Designer.
• Generate complete manufacturing output packages including Gerbers, drill files, assembly drawings, pick-and-place files, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Conduct Design Rule Checks (DRC) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews prior to release.
• Work with mechanical engineering to ensure board form factors, connector placements, and mounting features meet enclosure and system-level constraints.
• Support board bring-up, debugging, and rework activities alongside the engineering team.
• Manage design revisions, ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), and version control within design data management systems.

Required Qualifications
Education: Technical degree or equivalent certification in drafting, design, electronics technology, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional PCB layout experience, including at least 3 continuous years of experience utilizing Altium Designer.
Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in Altium Designer for schematic capture, layout, library management, and output generation. Strong understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes such as surface-mount technology (SMT), through-hole, reflow, and wave solder. Solid comprehension of high-speed digital design (DDR, USB, Ethernet, HDMI), power electronics layout (DC-DC converters, motor drivers, battery management systems), and EMC/EMI design principles.
Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with flex and rigid-flex PCB design.
• Proficiency with signal integrity and power integrity simulation tools.
• Experience with controlled-impedance and high-current PCB design.
• Experience with version control and PLM integration.
