Job Description

We have an URGENT request [SPID#69215] for an Industrial Engineer - Warehouse Layout Optimization to start for in Detroit, MI.

Looking for start date ASAP (as soon as Monday/Tuesday 14 th /15 th , latest on the 16 th ).

Will be 4 weeks and to be at client site 1-2 weeks. Remote is okay but need to travel.

Expenses will be paid by project. Client interview is not required.

Duration: 2-4 weeks (short-term advisory engagement)

Objective

Support rapid assessment of future-state automotive logistics operations, storage requirements, inventory placement, and LOC capacity constraints associated with new program introductions and facility changes.

The SME will work directly with operations, industrial engineering, planning, and other operational teams to quickly evaluate current assumptions, identify risks, and provide practical recommendations on warehouse footprint utilization, inventory placement, material flow, and automation opportunities.

Immediate Focus Areas

  • Assess whether future production programs can be accommodated within existing facility constraints.
  • Evaluate inventory and material storage requirements.
  • Review warehouse / LOC footprint utilization.
  • Assess effects of throughput growth, new programs, and facility changes.
  • Support material flow and logistics scenario definition.
  • Provide rapid operational recommendations to support planning decisions.

Must-Have Experience

  • 10+ years in automotive logistics, in-plant logistics, warehousing, industrial engineering, or material flow design.
  • Direct experience supporting:
    • Automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers
    • Supplier parks
    • 3PL-operated warehousing / logistics operations
    • Sequencing and kitting operations
    • Line-side replenishment
    • JIT / JIS manufacturing environments
  • Experience evaluating:
    • Warehouse footprint requirements
    • Space utilization
    • Material flow strategies
    • Inventory placement strategies
    • Storage capacity
  • Ability to rapidly assess and challenge operational assumptions.

Strongly Preferred

  • Greenfield warehouse or logistics facility design.
  • Experience supporting facility expansion, footprint reduction, or logistics transformations.
  • Participation in simulation
  • Warehouse automation exposure (AMRs, AGVs, ASRS, goods-to-person systems).
  • Material handling system selection or justification.

Expected Deliverables

  • Assessment of LOC / warehouse space utilization.
  • Identification of key planning assumptions.
  • Recommendations on inventory placement and storage strategy.
  • Identification of automation opportunities and constraints.
