Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Onsite (5 days per week) in Jackson, MN

Employment Type: 6 months; possibility to extend

Contract Compensation: up to $65/hour W-2

This senior embedded software engineering role supports the development of connected products involving telemetry, IoT, and machine connectivity. The position is primarily hands-on software engineering, with an emphasis on embedded C/C++, embedded Linux, software architecture, reliability, and technical leadership. Success requires strong engineering fundamentals, the ability to work across systems and software boundaries, and the judgment to develop maintainable software for complex connected products.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and support production embedded software using C and C++.
• Develop and maintain applications operating in embedded Linux environments.
• Participate in software architecture, requirements definition, technical design, and implementation decisions.
• Build software with a strong focus on performance, reliability, durability, quality, and serviceability.
• Troubleshoot complex software issues across application, operating-system, hardware-interface, and connected-system boundaries.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, software engineers, product stakeholders, and other technical teams throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide technical leadership on software projects, including design reviews, technical direction, and development best practices.
• Work within an Agile software-development environment and contribute to planning, estimation, execution, and delivery.
• Coordinate technical work and dependencies across geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Develop and maintain clear technical documentation for software designs, requirements, interfaces, and implementation decisions.
• Use AI-assisted software-development tools where appropriate to improve coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and engineering productivity.
• Contribute to software supporting telemetry, IoT, connected machines, and other embedded connected-product capabilities.

Required Skills:

• Strong professional embedded software development experience using C/C++.
• Senior-level embedded software engineering experience.
• Strong object-oriented programming and software-design experience.
• Hands-on embedded Linux application-development experience.
• Experience participating in software architecture, systems requirements, and technical design.
• Experience working within an Agile software-development environment.
• Technical Lead, Team Lead, Project Lead, or comparable technical leadership experience.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot complex embedded software issues and communicate technical findings clearly.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• Ability to work onsite in Jackson, Minnesota.

Preferred Skills:

• Yocto experience.
• Experience developing software for connected devices, telemetry, IoT, telematics, vehicles, industrial equipment, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, or similar embedded products.
• Product Owner, backlog-management, prioritization, roadmap, or technical product-delivery experience.
• Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools for coding, test generation, debugging, requirements analysis, or technical documentation.
• Experience with systems where hardware interfaces, reliability, field deployment, communications, or remote updates materially affect software design.
• Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership across software-development teams.
