Job Description

The Controller is responsible for directing all accounting operations of the Company's domestic business while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This position provides leadership across all accounting functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, cost accounting, inventory accounting, payroll, compliance, and external audits.

The Controller will work closely with the CFO and international finance teams, consolidating global financial results and providing actionable business insights. This individual will also play a key role in leveraging technology, including Epicor ERP, Power BI, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and API-enabled reporting tools, to improve financial visibility and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Lead all accounting operations for domestic business units.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Review and approve reconciliations for all balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial records and reporting systems.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities.
  • Prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts and working capital requirements.
  • Consolidate financial results from international operations and partner with global finance leaders.

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

  • Oversee all manufacturing accounting and cost accounting activities.
  • Manage inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, and cost allocations.
  • Partner with operations leadership to improve manufacturing profitability and productivity.
  • Develop reporting and metrics to support operational decision-making.

Payroll Administration

  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure all payroll reconciliations are completed accurately and timely.
  • Maintain payroll records and compliance with applicable regulations.

Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinate all external audits, tax engagements, and financial reviews.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal control requirements.
  • Maintain and continuously improve financial controls to safeguard company assets.

Systems, Automation & AI Initiatives

  • Serve as the finance leader for Epicor ERP optimization and reporting enhancements.
  • Collaborate with IT and business leaders on system improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Develop dashboards and business intelligence tools utilizing:
    • Power BI
    • Power Query
    • Power Automate
    • API integrations
  • Leverage Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and other AI technologies to streamline reporting, analysis, forecasting, and process automation.
  • Develop exception-based reporting and automated financial monitoring tools.

Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of three accounting professionals.
  • Establish departmental priorities and ensure timely completion of all accounting responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization, from production staff to executive management.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.

Experience

  • 8-10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of Epicor ERP experience.
  • Manufacturing accounting and cost accounting experience required.
  • Experience with multi-location and international operations.
  • Experience preparing consolidated financial statements.
  • Proven experience coordinating external audits.
  • Prior leadership experience managing accounting teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Extensive experience with manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management, and operational finance.
  • Advanced budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management skills.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems, business intelligence tools, and financial automation.
  • Experience using Power BI, APIs, AI-enabled reporting tools, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present financial information and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Hands-on management style with the ability to personally execute accounting functions when needed.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability.
