KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and specification
- Partner with Facilities, Network, AV, Security, and End User Support stakeholders to establish IT requirements for each project at the design stage.
- Review architectural, electrical, and low-voltage drawings against Client standards; issue formal design comments and track resolution.
- Produce construction documents, specifications, and installation standards for low-voltage cabling contractors.
- Define equipment placement within network rooms — rack elevations and positions for network gear, security and BAS panels, service wall fields, pathway and containment routes.
- Specify pathway, grounding/bonding, fire-stopping, labelling, and testing requirements in line with TIA/BICSI standards and local code.
- Develop ROM and BOM for new builds and refreshes; drive procurement of long-lead materials against project milestones.
- Oversee low-voltage contractors through installation, ensuring work is delivered to design specification and quality standard.
- Issue Statements of Work and detailed working instructions to vendors; review and validate submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Walk construction projects on a regular cadence and issue written site reports capturing Client feedback, defects, and corrective actions.
- Manage punch-list closure, acceptance testing, and test-result review (fibre and copper certification) prior to sign-off.
- Compile and record close-out documentation — as-built drawings, test results, warranty certificates, labelling schedules — and hand over to the operations team and end users.
- Ensure all newly delivered infrastructure is loaded into Netbox/Nautobot and CMDB before project closure.
- Conduct formal handover walkthroughs so operations inherit a documented, supportable environment.
- Capture lessons learned and feed improvements back into Client design standards and vendor specifications.
- Maintain a forward view of network room capacity — available ports, fibre strand counts, PDU outlets, rack units, and power headroom — and flag constraints ahead of demand.
- Plan and scope lifecycle refresh initiatives for cable plant, racks, and power infrastructure.
- Support regional power shutdown planning from an infrastructure design and risk perspective.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years in low-voltage design, telecommunications consulting, IT construction project management, or structured cabling program delivery.
- RCDD certification (or actively pursuing) — this is the core credential for the design and specification scope.
- Working command of TIA-568/569/606/607, BICSI TDMM practice, NEC low-voltage provisions, and applicable local building and fire code.
- Ability to read and markup architectural, electrical, and telecom drawings; proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or Bluebeam for review and redline.
- Demonstrated experience directing low-voltage subcontractors and general contractors, including SOW authoring, submittal review, and change-order control.
- Deep understanding of network room infrastructure — racks, containment, grounding, power distribution, cooling, and fibre/copper plant design.
- Strong written communication; able to produce specifications, site reports, and closeout packages to a professional standard.
- Comfortable operating with minimal direction in ambiguous, fast-moving construction environments.
- 10+ years of related experience, including delivery of ground-up building or large campus fit-out projects.
- Additional BICSI credentials (DCDC, OSP, RTPM) or PMP.
- Experience delivering lab, cleanroom, or high-density compute environments.
- Proficiency with DCIM/CMDB platforms, and with SQL, Python, or PowerBI/Tableau for capacity and program reporting.
- Prior experience at a large-scale technology company or hyperscale operator.
- Projects delivered to schedule and to design specification, with defects closed before handover.
- Design reviews completed within agreed turnaround at each project gate.
- BOM/ROM accuracy against final installed quantities.
- Complete closeout documentation and CMDB records at every project completion.
