Job description

About the Role

We are hiring a Switchgear Engineer for our client.

You’ll support the design, application, procurement, integration and field execution of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and generator/inverter paralleling equipment. You’ll work closely with switchgear engineering leadership, development engineering, estimation, project delivery, procurement, controls, OEM partners and field teams.

What You’ll Do

Engineering & Design

  • Support the design and application of LV/MV switchgear for microgrids, distributed generation, BESS, solar, generators, EV charging and industrial power projects.
  • Interpret single-line and three-line diagrams, site plans, specifications and 60/90/100% design packages.
  • Configure and quote switchgear packages: switchboards, lineups, panelboards, breakers, fused disconnects, transformers, protective relays, metering and controls.
  • Develop BOMs, equipment schedules, procurement scopes, submittals and vendor drawing review comments.
  • Apply NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, utility and local code requirements to equipment selection and design reviews.

OEM Coordination & Integration

  • Coordinate with OEMs, contract manufacturers and procurement on availability, lead times, technical compliance and delivery.
  • Review OEM quotations, shop drawings and wiring documentation, and take part in factory acceptance testing (FAT).
  • Integrate switchgear with generators, BESS, solar PV, ATS, paralleling and microgrid controls, and utility interconnections.
  • Flag technical risks and design gaps early, and recommend actions.

Project Support

  • Give technical input on estimates, proposals, procurement takeoffs and basis-of-design narratives.
  • Support construction, startup, commissioning and closeout, and resolve field questions and punch-list items.
  • Keep project, procurement and equipment data accurate in business systems.

Standardization & Improvement

  • Help build switchgear standards, design templates, equipment libraries and pre-engineered microgrid solutions.
  • Find opportunities for modular design, value engineering and better installation efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, EE Technology or a related field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered for Engineer II.
  • Engineer I: foundational knowledge of three-phase power systems, breakers, transformers, relays and switchgear.
  • Engineer II: 3+ years with electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, industrial power, microgrids, EPC or electrical contracting.
  • Strong ability to read single-line, three-line and wiring diagrams, specs and submittals.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar. SKM, ETAP or Revit is a plus.
  • Ability to learn OEM quoting tools such as Empower, BidMan or Compass SE Advantage.
  • Strong MS Office, communication and multi-project management skills.
  • Willingness to travel for site, factory and commissioning work.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Square D or other major LV/MV switchgear OEMs.
  • Hands-on installation, commissioning or troubleshooting experience.
  • Generator paralleling, BESS, PV, EV charging or utility interconnection experience.
  • Journeyman/Master Electrician license, NETA certification, or EIT/PE (or eligibility for one).
