Software Engineer (AWS, Node.js) - Payments/Fintech. SOLE AGENT

Hybrid, 2 days a month in the office

£60,000 - £70,000 + Equity + benefits.

Our client is a growing UK payments technology company building out its in-house engineering function from the ground up. This is a rare chance to join early, work directly alongside the CTO, and genuinely shape how the platform is built. not just execute a backlog.

What we're looking for:

• Around 5 years' experience as a Back End/full-stack engineer, ideally with some Front End exposure (Node.js/Next.js)
• Payments or fintech background essential. Exposure to card payments, PSPs, acquiring, or scheme/issuer processing
• Strong AWS experience (serverless, API Gateway, relational databases; Postgres/Aurora)
• Comfortable working independently, with real ownership rather than a rigid ticket queue
• Bonus: familiarity with PayFac, ISO, or payment gateway architecture

What you'll be doing:

• Designing and building on AWS using serverless-first architecture
• Working across the stack: APIs, data, integrations, and infrastructure
• Integrating third-party services; payment processors, KYC/KYB providers, fraud platforms, banking APIs
• Building secure, PCI-aware systems fit for a regulated payments environment
• You won't be building everything solo. Third-party engineering teams handle a lot of the heavy infrastructure/DevOps build, so you're directing and reviewing that work rather than carrying it all yourself
