Job Description

Job Summary

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer is seeking a Senior Associate to join our financial services regulatory team based in Sydney. The role reports to Partners Charlotte Henry and Alice Molan, and it involves advising local and international clients across the banking, non bank lending, payments and fintech sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on non contentious financial services regulation (FSR) to support clients navigating an increasingly complex regulatory environment and upcoming reforms.
  • Provide structured, solution focused guidance to clients in payments, financial crime, consumer credit, retail and wholesale banking, prudential regulation (including the financial accountability regime) and digital assets.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage competing priorities and tight time frames, and contribute to the delivery of high quality client service.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
  • Engage in emerging technology trends, including AI, to enhance the practice's capabilities.
Qualifications
  • Experience as a Senior Associate in a FSR team within private practice, an in house division or a relevant regulatory body.
  • Regulatory experience covering one or more of the following areas: payments, financial crime, consumer credit, retail and wholesale banking, prudential regulation, digital assets.
  • Strong academic results and an unrestricted Australian or New Zealand practising certificate.
  • A curiosity about domestic and international clients and a drive to build relationships across the global network.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight time frames and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Genuine passion for supporting and developing junior team members.
  • Innovative mindset, curious about AI and emerging technologies.
