Senior Application Developer – GenTax, C# & SQL
Location: Utah
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Onsite Expectation: Approximately 5% onsite; in-person attendance expected approximately once per week for meetings
Employment Type: Long-Term Contract

Contract End Date: August 31, 2031
Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 40 hours per week
Hours: 8 hours per day

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Application Developer with deep hands-on expertise in GenTax, C#, SQL, Visual Studio, SOAP, and REST APIs to support the design, development, enhancement, and modernization of complex enterprise tax-processing applications.
The selected developer will work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to analyze requirements, design technical solutions, develop and enhance GenTax functionality, integrate internal and external systems, troubleshoot production issues, and support application upgrades.
This is a senior-level role requiring significant hands-on experience with the GenTax/FAST platform. The strongest candidates will have successfully designed and implemented complex GenTax solutions and will be comfortable providing technical leadership and mentoring other developers.
Key Responsibilities
GenTax Application Development
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications within the GenTax platform.
- Develop solutions using C# and SQL within Visual Studio.
- Analyze existing GenTax functionality and determine appropriate technical solutions.
- Develop new functionality and enhance existing application components.
- Support maintenance, upgrade, and new-development initiatives within the GenTax environment.
- Implement solutions that support complex tax-processing and administrative business processes.
C# & SQL Development
- Develop and maintain C# application components.
- Write complex and advanced SQL queries.
- Analyze and troubleshoot database-related application issues.
- Optimize SQL and application logic where appropriate.
- Use Visual Studio for application development, debugging, testing, and maintenance.
- Support data retrieval, transformation, and processing requirements.
API & Integration Development
- Consume existing API services.
- Update and enhance existing API integrations.
- Design and create new API services.
- Develop and support both SOAP and RESTful web services.
- Troubleshoot application-integration and interface issues.
- Validate API functionality and data exchanges between systems.
- Support integration between GenTax and other enterprise applications.
Requirements Analysis
- Work directly with business and technical stakeholders to understand functional requirements.
- Gather and document detailed business requirements.
- Analyze business processes and workflows.
- Translate functional requirements into clear technical specifications.
- Perform system analysis to determine appropriate technical approaches.
- Develop process and workflow designs to support technical implementation.
- Identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and potential problem areas.
System Design & Technical Solutions
- Evaluate business and technical requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Design scalable and maintainable application functionality.
- Identify technical problems or potential problem areas.
- Recommend system, process, or architecture improvements.
- Participate in application architecture and technical-design discussions.
- Support technical decision-making for complex development initiatives.
Production Support & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues affecting application functionality, performance, or integration points.
- Perform root-cause analysis of complex technical problems.
- Investigate GenTax, SQL, API, and application-processing issues.
- Recommend and implement corrective solutions.
- Support production stability and ongoing application maintenance.
Code Quality & Best Practices
- Perform code reviews.
- Ensure development work follows established coding standards and best practices.
- Review technical designs and application changes for quality and maintainability.
- Support continuous improvement of development standards and processes.
Application Upgrades & Data Conversion
- Support GenTax software-version upgrades.
- Participate in upgrade analysis, planning, testing, and implementation.
- Support data-conversion activities associated with system upgrades.
- Identify compatibility or integration issues related to application upgrades.
- Validate upgraded functionality and converted data.
Technical Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide technical guidance to other developers and team members.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers.
- Assist team members with complex GenTax, C#, SQL, and integration issues.
- Share development standards, technical knowledge, and best practices.
- Collaborate effectively with team members of varying skill levels.
Minimum Mandatory Qualifications
Candidates must clearly demonstrate the following experience:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience designing and developing solutions within the GenTax system.
- Strong hands-on experience with C# development using Visual Studio.
- Strong SQL development experience, including advanced SQL queries.
- Experience consuming API services.
- Experience modifying and updating existing API services.
- Experience designing and creating new API services.
- Strong experience with SOAP web services.
- Strong experience with RESTful APIs.
- Experience gathering and analyzing functional business requirements.
- Experience translating functional requirements into technical specifications.
- Strong system-analysis experience.
- Experience developing technical solutions using workflow and process design.

- Experience supporting enterprise tax-processing systems.

- Experience designing and supporting Motor Vehicle Title and Registration systems.
- Experience supporting Motor Vehicle Enforcement applications.
- Experience supporting tax-processing applications.
- Experience supporting property-tax systems.
- Previous experience working as an IT Architect.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a senior GenTax developer who has spent at least five years directly designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting GenTax applications rather than simply working around or interfacing with the platform.
The strongest candidate will demonstrate:
- 5+ years of recent GenTax development experience.
- Direct development experience with the FAST GenTax/DSVS product.
- Strong C# development using Visual Studio.
- Advanced SQL development.
- Hands-on SOAP and REST API development.
- Experience creating new APIs, not simply consuming existing services.
- Experience translating complicated business requirements into GenTax technical solutions.
- GenTax production-support and troubleshooting experience.
- GenTax upgrade and data-conversion experience.
- Experience working on large, complex enterprise applications.
- Ability to provide architectural and technical guidance.
- Experience mentoring other developers.

GenTax is the most important skill for this position. Candidates with general C#/SQL development experience but without at least 5 years of direct GenTax solution design and development experience would not meet the stated minimum requirement.
