Lead Controls Engineer
Location: Halcomb, KS (On-site)
Role Overview
This position's primary responsibility is to oversee and provide expert technical direction for technology-based processes. The lead will plan, provide direction, and support IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. This role involves working closely with decision-makers to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective solutions while helping to define and implement IT policies, standards, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and recommendations to team members and management.
• Ensure compliance with IS standards and methodology.
• Recommend and develop plans for systems development, operations, and hardware/software purchases.
• Analyze and interpret information systems proposals and evaluate alternative implementation plans.
• Troubleshoot automated production and material-handling equipment in a live manufacturing environment.
• Support conveyance systems, including motors, drives, sensors, and related equipment.
• Integrate and troubleshoot industrial barcode, scanning, and vision equipment (e.g., Keyence, Cognex, SICK).
• Diagnose issues across PLC, HMI/SCADA (Ignition and iFix), and connected equipment.
• Troubleshoot communications between PLCs, scanners, field devices, and other plant-floor systems.
• Support older equipment while assisting with controls upgrades, replacements, and modernization efforts.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another technical area. Equivalent work experience may be acceptable.
Experience: 6+ years of experience in Information Systems or a related area with proven programming experience.
Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of multiple technologies including SCADA, 4GL programming, scripting, server-based systems, and SQL.
• Knowledge in programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems in industrial environments, with experience in ladder logic and structured programming.
• Hands-on PLC troubleshooting and programming experience, with a focus on Schneider Electric / Modicon.
• Strong diagnostic ability to trace problems across controls, electrical, communications, and equipment to determine the root cause.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating technical information to non-technical team members.
• Advanced understanding of a System Development Lifecycle Methodology.
• Experience developing and executing integrated test plans.
• Basic project management capabilities.
