Fabricator – Plater | Glasgow, United Kingdom | On-site | £38,662

The Role

  • Interpret engineering drawings, mark off materials, and prepare plate using methods such as oxy-fuel cutting and hand grinding.
  • Assemble ship structures, including shell, decks, bulkheads, frames, and longitudinals, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding.
  • Fabricate ship items such as seats, ladders, false flooring, panels, hatches, watertight doors, and equipment seating.
  • Form materials using machine tools, including rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment like guillotines, croppers, and mechanical saws.
  • Work within teams to produce high-quality steelwork supporting essential defence projects.

What You'll Need

  • Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent) are mandatory.
  • Demonstrable up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding and application of core manufacturing processes, including tack welding to safety and quality standards.
  • Confidence and responsibility in operating oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
  • Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements.
  • Experience of working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.
