Quick overview
Job description
About the Role
Join an early-stage insurtech company building AI-powered tools for insurance claims operations. As the founding product designer, you will shape the end-to-end experience for claims professionals and leaders, turning complex, high-volume workflows into clear, effective products.
What You'll Do
Design customer-facing experiences across claims workspaces, operational tools, and executive dashboards, with a focus on making complex claims workflows simple.
Lead UX research and product instrumentation by reviewing behavioral data and heat maps, speaking with users, and using findings to guide improvements.
Partner with product leadership, forward-deployed engineers, and the broader engineering team to translate customer needs into workflows and implementation-ready designs.
Design human-in-the-loop AI interactions that help users understand what agents did, why they did it, what information they used, and when they are uncertain.
Guide the product's evolution toward an enterprise-ready experience, taking work from discovery through delivery.
Establish design principles and a design system, prototype with AI tools, and measure whether changes reduce user effort.
What We're Looking For
Five to eight years of product design experience, including early-stage startup experience as a founding designer or first design hire.
A portfolio demonstrating UX-first design for dense, technical software used by operators throughout the workday.
Experience simplifying complex workflows through user research and data, such as behavioral analytics or heat maps.
Hands-on prototyping experience with AI coding tools such as Claude or Lovable.
Strong product design experience beyond visual design, with a record of working closely with engineering teams.
Experience in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another compliance-heavy operational domain is a plus, as is experience designing AI-assisted workflows and design systems.
U.S. work authorization is required. Visa transfers are supported, but new visa sponsorship is not available.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $170,000 to $220,000 annually. Visa transfers are supported; new visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
On-site, five days per week in New York, New York.
