Job Description

Job Title: Business Process Specialist – Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance

Location Boston, MA(Remote Also an Option)

Role Summary

The Business Process Specialist is responsible for analyzing, designing, optimizing, and governing end-to-end business processes across P&C Insurance operations. The role partners with business stakeholders, operations teams, underwriting, claims, policy administration, and technology teams to improve efficiency, regulatory compliance, customer experience, and operational performance through process transformation and continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires strong knowledge of P&C insurance operations, process modeling (BPMN), workflow optimization, and digital transformation.


Key Responsibilities

Process Analysis & Optimization

·        Assess current-state business processes across underwriting, policy administration, billing, and claims.

·        Identify process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, control gaps, and automation opportunities.

·        Design future-state operating models and workflows.

·        Facilitate process discovery, value stream mapping, and process improvement workshops.

·        Drive Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Business Process Modeling

·        Develop and maintain process maps, SOPs, workflow diagrams, and process documentation using BPMN standards.

·        Create end-to-end process architectures and operational playbooks.

·        Establish process governance and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.

P&C Insurance Operations Support

·        Support and optimize processes across:

o   New Business Submission

o   Risk Entry & Clearance

o   Underwriting Support

o   Quote Generation & Rating

o   Policy Issuance

o   Endorsements

o   Renewals

o   Cancellations & Reinstatements

o   FNOL (First Notice of Loss)

o   Claims Processing

o   Claims Payments

o   Customer Service Operations

o   Policy Servicing activities

Digital Transformation & Automation

·        Identify opportunities for workflow automation, RPA, AI, and straight-through processing.

·        Collaborate with business and technology teams to translate process requirements into system solutions.

·        Support implementation of insurance platforms such as Duck Creek, Guidewire, Majesco, or similar PAS/Claims systems.

·        Participate in process mining and operational analytics initiatives.

Stakeholder Management

·        Work closely with business SMEs, operations leaders, product owners, and technology teams.

·        Lead process review sessions and requirement workshops.

·        Present recommendations and business cases to leadership.

·        Manage cross-functional initiatives impacting multiple business units.

Performance & Governance

·        Define and track KPIs, SLAs, cycle times, productivity metrics, and quality measures.

·        Monitor operational performance and recommend corrective actions.

·        Support compliance, audit, and regulatory requirements.


Required Qualifications

Education

·        Bachelor''s degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Finance, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

·        MBA or equivalent preferred.

Experience

·        5+ years of experience in P&C Insurance operations, business analysis, process excellence, or operational transformation.

·        Hands-on experience in commercial or personal lines insurance.

·        Experience working with insurance business processes across underwriting, policy administration, billing, or claims.

Technical Skills

·        BPMN 2.0 Process Modeling

·        Process Mapping & Documentation

·        Business Analysis

·        Process Improvement Methodologies

·        Data Analysis and Reporting

·        Microsoft Visio, Signavio, ProcessGym, Bizagi, ARIS, or equivalent BPM tools
