Job description

A Queensland Government department is seeking an experienced Technical Developer to design, build and support business solutions on the Microsoft Power Platform, mainly Power BI, Power Apps and Power Automate. This is a full-time, 6-month contract with the possibility of extension, based in the Brisbane CBD.

You will turn business requirements into practical, secure and maintainable solutions that improve reporting, automate manual processes and support better decision-making.

About the role

Working closely with business areas, product owners, business analysts, architects and cyber security teams, you will translate requirements into clear technical designs and working solutions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and maintaining Power BI reports, dashboards and data models using DAX and Power Query
  • Implementing Row-Level Security and optimising report performance and accessibility
  • Building and maintaining model-driven Power Apps that digitise and streamline business processes
  • Developing Power Automate workflows for approvals, notifications and data movement
  • Integrating solutions with corporate systems using standard connectors, custom connectors and APIs
  • Supporting and enhancing existing solutions, including testing, defect resolution and release management
  • Using source control, environment management and deployment pipelines
  • Maintaining technical documentation and meeting security, privacy and records management requirements
About you

You are a hands-on Power Platform developer who balances timely delivery with security, governance and long-term maintainability. You will bring:

  • At least 3-4 years' hands-on experience developing and supporting Power BI and Power Apps solutions, ideally including model-driven apps (Dataverse)
  • Strong DAX, Power Query, data modelling and relational database knowledge
  • Good SQL skills and experience working with multiple data sources
  • Experience building Power Automate workflows and integrating applications through APIs and connectors
  • A solid understanding of application security, identity, access control and data protection
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders

Experience with REST APIs and custom connectors, Azure DevOps or Git, and government or large enterprise environments will be highly regarded, as well as relevant Microsoft certifications or IT qualifications.
