If youre already working hands-on with Microsoft Fabric and want greater ownership of the solutions you build, this role gives you the chance to do that without moving away from engineering.

A UK Wealth Management business is modernising its enterprise data platform and moving from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric.

Theyre looking for a Senior Data Engineer who has genuine production experience with Fabric: not simply implementing something and moving on, but supporting it, improving it and dealing with the operational realities that follow.

Youll design, build and deploy production solutions yourself, while bringing enough experience to make good technical decisions, solve difficult engineering problems and provide guidance to other engineers.

Microsoft Fabric is becoming central to the organisations data environment.

Youll work across:

• Designing and building solutions using Microsoft Fabric
• Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse and OneLake
• Data pipelines and ETL/ELT
• Power BI
• SQL and data modelling
• Azure Data Lake
• Internal and third-party API integrations
• Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD
• Production deployment and support
• Existing Azure Synapse solutions during the transition to Fabric

Youll also contribute to engineering quality and maintainability, solve production problems and share knowledge with other engineers.

Microsoft Fabric and Power BI are both important requirements.

You should have been working hands-on with Fabric in your current or most recent role, with enough continuity to have seen your solutions through beyond their initial implementation.

That means being able to talk about what happened after go-live: how you supported what you built, problems you encountered, changes you made and how the solution evolved.

The client would ideally like someone who has developed that experience over a sustained period. However, the important requirement is the depth and continuity of your Fabric experience, rather than simply whether youve crossed an arbitrary two-year threshold.

Youll also need a strong grounding in Data Engineering, including:

• SQL and data modelling
• ETL/ELT
• Azure data platforms
• API integration
• Git/source control
• CI/CD and deployment
• Building and supporting production data solutions

Azure Synapse experience would be useful but isnt essential.

Youll need experience developing and deploying solutions within a highly regulated environment. Previous Financial Services experience is strongly preferred, particularly Wealth Management, Banking or Insurance.

The business is increasing its investment in AI, including Azure AI Foundry.

This isnt an AI Engineering position and you dont need deep Machine Learning experience. Practical use of Copilot or another LLM as part of your engineering work would be useful, whether thats development, debugging, code validation or documentation.

Youll have the opportunity to develop that experience as AI becomes more integrated into the wider data and technology environment.

The role can be aligned to the Leeds office, although current office attendance is typically two days per month in either London or Birmingham.

Youll need to live within approximately one hours commute of Leeds and be prepared to work from an office up to three days per week if future business requirements change.

That future requirement is worth being clear about. Current office attendance is low, but this isnt intended to be a permanently remote role.
