Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking experienced Senior IT Project Managers who can quickly integrate into a complex global portfolio and begin delivering value from day one.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of independently managing complex, cross-functional technology initiatives involving global business and IT stakeholders, multiple workstreams, vendors, dependencies, and competing priorities.

Candidates must have prior experience working within the Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or Medical Devices industry, with a good understanding of the delivery expectations and governance requirements associated with highly regulated environments.

This role requires a hands-on, delivery-focused Project Manager who can rapidly understand the business and technology landscape, establish effective governance, identify delivery risks and dependencies, and drive projects through successful execution.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Program Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, enterprise-level IT and business technology projects across a global portfolio.
  • Quickly assess project status, scope, stakeholders, dependencies, risks, milestones, and outstanding decisions when joining an existing initiative.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans covering scope, schedule, resources, budget, risks, dependencies, quality, and business readiness.
  • Drive projects from initiation and planning through execution, deployment, transition, and closure.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects or workstreams with competing priorities.
  • Proactively identify delivery challenges and develop practical recovery and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure milestones, deliverables, and commitments are completed according to agreed timelines and quality expectations.

Global Stakeholder Management

  • Work effectively across a complex, global, matrixed organization involving business, IT, vendors, and external partners.
  • Coordinate geographically distributed teams across multiple functions and time zones.
  • Build strong working relationships with business sponsors, IT leadership, functional teams, technical teams, and third-party vendors.
  • Facilitate project meetings, workshops, governance forums, and executive steering committee discussions.
  • Drive accountability by ensuring actions, decisions, risks, and dependencies have clear owners and due dates.
  • Communicate project status, risks, issues, decisions, and recommendations clearly to senior stakeholders.

Governance, Risk & Dependency Management

  • Establish and maintain appropriate project governance and reporting structures.
  • Maintain RAID logs, action trackers, decision logs, dependency trackers, project schedules, and status reports.
  • Identify cross-project and cross-functional dependencies and proactively drive them to resolution.
  • Escalate critical risks, resource constraints, scope issues, and decision requirements at the appropriate time.
  • Ensure project documentation is accurate, current, and audit-ready.
  • Support portfolio-level reporting and provide concise executive-level project updates.

Financial & Vendor Management

  • Support project budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and financial tracking.
  • Monitor project spend against approved budgets and investigate variances.
  • Manage external vendors and implementation partners to ensure delivery against contractual commitments.
  • Track vendor deliverables, milestones, dependencies, and SOW obligations.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to maintain project delivery momentum.

Pharma / Life Sciences Delivery

  • Manage technology initiatives within Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or Medical Device environments.
  • Understand the importance of quality, compliance, documentation, validation, data integrity, and change control within regulated environments.
  • Partner effectively with business, quality, regulatory, security, infrastructure, application, data, and other technology teams.
  • Ensure project execution aligns with applicable organizational governance and regulated-industry requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of IT project/program management experience, with significant experience leading complex enterprise technology initiatives.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience working within Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or Medical Devices.
  • 5+ years of proven ability to independently manage complex projects involving multiple workstreams, stakeholders, vendors, and dependencies.
  • Experience operating within large global and matrixed organizations.
  • 5+ years of Strong experience with project planning, scheduling, RAID management, dependency management, financial tracking, resource planning, and executive reporting.
  • Experience coordinating globally distributed teams across business and IT functions.
  • Strong vendor and third-party management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to join an existing project, rapidly understand the landscape, identify delivery gaps, and add value from day one.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, communication, negotiation, and escalation skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, changing priorities, and multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Strong proficiency with standard project management and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP, PRINCE2, SAFe, Agile, Scrum, or equivalent project/program management certification.
  • Experience working in a regulated GxP/GMP environment.
  • Familiarity with CSV/CSA, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5, data integrity, or regulated IT delivery practices.
  • Experience with enterprise transformation, application implementation, infrastructure, cloud, ERP, data, digital transformation, M&A/integration, or application transition programs.
  • Experience managing global projects involving teams across North America, Europe, and APAC.
  • Experience presenting project status, risks, financials, and recommendations to senior/executive leadership.

Key Success Profile

The successful candidate will be a senior, hands-on Project Manager rather than a coordinator. They should be comfortable entering a complex initiative with limited ramp-up time, quickly establishing credibility with stakeholders, bringing structure to ambiguous situations, identifying delivery risks early, and driving teams toward measurable outcomes.

Critical screening criteria:

  • 10+ years of IT Project/Program Management experience.
  • Strong Pharma / Healthcare / Life Sciences domain experience.
  • Proven delivery within complex global portfolios.
  • Experience managing multiple workstreams, vendors, risks, and dependencies.
  • Strong executive stakeholder management and governance experience.
  • Ability to independently drive delivery and demonstrate value from the beginning of the engagement.
