About the Opportunity

Our client is a specialist technology company providing advanced software solutions to major telecommunications organisations around the world.

They are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of large-scale technology projects, or multiple concurrent medium-sized projects, for Tier 1 and Tier 2 telecommunications customers.

This is a highly visible, external client-facing role, combining project leadership, commercial control, stakeholder management and technical programme delivery. You will work closely with customers, internal delivery teams and senior stakeholders to ensure complex projects remain aligned to agreed scope, schedule, budget, quality and delivery objectives.

Role & Responsibilities

As a Project Manager, you will take ownership of complex customer projects from planning through delivery, ensuring they remain aligned with agreed scope, timescales, budgets and customer expectations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading large-scale projects or multiple concurrent projects
  • Developing and maintaining project plans, schedules and delivery objectives
  • Managing scope, change, risks, issues, actions, dependencies and key decisions
  • Coordinating internal project teams and allocating project deliverables
  • Managing project budgets, resources, delivery hours and schedules
  • Leading internal and client-facing project meetings
  • Providing regular project status reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitoring milestones, deliverables and project dependencies
  • Identifying and resolving escalated project issues
  • Managing stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle
  • Reviewing project team utilisation and billable activity
  • Supporting and mentoring members of the Project Management Office
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of PMO processes and procedures
  • Maintaining knowledge of company products, technologies and project management best practice

Qualifications:

Key Requirements

You will be an experienced Project Manager with a strong background delivering complex technology projects for external enterprise customers.

Essential skills and experience include:

  • 7+years project management experience, ideally within technology, telecommunications, network infrastructure or enterprise software
  • Significant experience leading large-scale projects, programmes or multiple concurrent projects
  • Proven external client-facing project leadership experience
  • Experience managing projects for complex enterprise organisations, ideally including Tier 1 or Tier 2 telecoms operators
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and best practice
  • Experience managing scope, schedules, resources, budgets, risks, issues and change
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior and C-level customer contacts
  • Experience leading and coordinating cross-functional project teams
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience

Desirable:

  • PMP certification and good understanding of PMI / PMBOK
  • Previous supervisory or people management experience
  • Experience within telecommunications network technology
  • Exposure to Smallworld or Ericsson Network Engineer
