API & Integrations Engineer

Location: San Francisco, CA – Onsite
C2C/1099

Opportunity to shape API and integration architecture from the ground up

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced API & Integrations Engineer to take ownership of the company’s public APIs and third-party integrations. This is a high-ownership engineering role working closely with the founding team, where you will make architectural decisions and own technical problems end to end.

This is not a general backend engineering role. Strong hands-on experience building and operating external APIs and complex third-party integrations is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and evolve public/external APIs.
  • Own API architecture, design, versioning, security, and scalability.
  • Build and maintain complex third-party SaaS integrations.
  • Implement and manage OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC) authentication flows.
  • Develop reliable webhook systems and data synchronization processes.
  • Design solutions for API rate limits, retries, failures, and integration reliability.
  • Troubleshoot production integration issues and drive problems through resolution.
  • Partner closely with the founding team on architecture and technical decisions.
  • Take full ownership of projects and technical problems from design through production.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with public/external API architecture, design, and versioning.
  • Deep understanding of OAuth 2.0 and OIDC.
  • Proven experience with complex third-party SaaS integrations.
  • Strong knowledge of webhooks, data synchronization, rate limiting, and API reliability.
  • Production troubleshooting and incident-resolution experience.
  • Strong development experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-ownership environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an early-stage startup/SaaS environment.
  • Comfortable making architectural decisions with limited direction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working directly with founders or senior technical leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to own initiatives and deliver solutions end to end.
