Job description

Woven Capital is Toyota's growth-stage venture capital arm focused on advancing the future of mobility – how people, goods, information and energy move. We manage $1.6 billion, investing in companies that create new ways to support mobility and emerging technologies, advance the industrial value chain, and accelerate decarbonization and sustainability. Our work connects breakthrough innovators with Toyota's global platform, strengthening the company's capabilities today while creating new opportunities for tomorrow.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Woven Capital is seeking an experienced Partner / Principal in London to shape the EMEA investment strategy, deepen founder and co-investor relationships, and formalize the foundation for Woven Capital’s presence in EMEA. Reporting to the CIO, the successful candidate will not only be able to lead investments end-to-end, but will also be ready and comfortable to conduct due diligence, develop trust relationships with business units on collaboration projects, and train and mentor other members of the team to develop their personal growth and career paths.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Source and develop investment opportunities by building and leveraging referral networks and relationships to generate high-quality deal flow. Cultivate and manage relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and industry leaders in Woven Capital’s areas of focus.
  • Lead investment due diligence by conducting market and industry research and engaging with company management, industry participants, competitors, customers, and other relevant stakeholders to assess investment opportunities.
  • Develop financial models and investment analyses, including valuations, optimal capital structures, investment terms, potential returns, and exit scenarios.
  • Structure and negotiate transactions, including drafting and reviewing term sheets, expressions of interest, and letters of intent, and negotiating deal terms and transaction documents with prospective portfolio companies, co-investors, and other relevant parties.
  • Develop investment recommendations by preparing and presenting investment memo to the Woven Capital Investment Committee for review and approval.
  • Drive portfolio value creation by actively monitoring investments, participating in board meetings as a director or observer, advising portfolio companies on strategy and growth, and facilitating strategic partnerships and business opportunities between portfolio companies and Toyota Group companies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of investment experience in venture capital, corporate venture capital, or private equity, with a strong track record of sourcing, evaluating, executing, and managing investments.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a strong analytical foundation. A degree in finance, business, economics, engineering, science, or another relevant discipline is preferred.
  • A natural collaborator and self-starter who takes ownership, demonstrates strong leadership, and consistently drives initiatives to successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, build alignment across diverse interests, and navigate complex organizational dynamics to achieve results.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships across Toyota and its broader ecosystem, and translate those relationships into strategic opportunities and tangible business outcomes for portfolio companies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex ideas and tailor messages and presentations to different audiences.
  • Track record of hiring, developing, and mentoring talent, as well as leading teams and managing multiple priorities in parallel.
  • Ability to navigate cultural, linguistic, and organizational differences, and move initiatives forward across global teams with different decision-making processes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA, JD, or advanced graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Math or other quantitative discipline highly desired.
  • Japanese language ability is a plus but not required.
  • Experience working, studying, or living in different cultures and geographies is a plus but not required.
