Job description

Egis is a leading global organisation in architecture, consulting, construction engineering, operations and mobility services. We partner with clients to design, deliver and operate smarter infrastructure and places that respond to the world’s evolving needs.

With more than 22,000 employees worldwide, we combine global capability with strong local insight. Our multidisciplinary expertise enables us to deliver innovative, practical and sustainable solutions that help build more balanced, resilient communities.

At Egis, you’ll be part of a business shaping the future of cities, transport, energy and the built environment, creating lasting impact where it matters most.

Egis is expanding its geotechnical practice in Brisbane and is looking for a Principal or Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer to help shape its direction. Our team is built around the design of tailings storage facilities and water dams, and this role gives you real technical influence over that work, along with leadership of the discipline’s growth.

Reporting to the Discipline Leader, you will provide specialist geotechnical leadership to clients across the resources, government and private sectors, on projects throughout Australia.

The role will include:

  • Lead civil and geotechnical projects across all life stages, from concept and detailed design through construction and closure, delivering them to schedule and budget.
  • Provide senior technical review of geotechnical analyses and detailed designs.
  • Oversee technical reports and project deliverables, including project financials.
  • Mentor engineers delivering site investigations, construction supervision and inspection programs.
  • Work with clients from project inception to define problems, assess risk and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Prepare and review proposals, and contribute to client relationships and business development.
  • Take an active part in team workshops, training and business planning.

Ideally, you will have 10+ years of experience in a similar technical role within the consulting sector. In addition to this, you will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • RPEQ registration.
  • Detailed design experience with earthen embankment dams and/or tailings storage facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the resources sector, including water and tailings infrastructure.
  • Strong grounding in soil mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of ANCOLD, DETSI and GISTM guidelines.
  • Proven project management of medium to large projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the credibility to engage stakeholders from site to boardroom.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff and working in multidisciplinary teams.

The Benefits

  • Competitive remuneration and benefits.
  • A structured learning and development framework to align with career progression goals.
  • Brisbane CBD location with flexible working arrangements, including remote working options.
  • An inclusive team culture that celebrates performance and rewards accordingly.
  • Paid Primary and Secondary Carer Leave Policy, reflecting our commitment to work-life balance.
  • Support structures like our Employee Assistance Program, professional mentoring, and buddy program for new starters.
  • Opportunities to work on special interest projects.
  • Opportunities to work across government, private and resource sectors.
  • Opportunities to travel for work across multiple offices.
  • Great cultural environment where teamwork and camaraderie are promoted and valued.
  • Supportive leadership based on openness.

Egis is committed to creating an inclusive, creative culture that embraces diversity and flexibility. We offer generous parental leave, support flexible work practices and strive to create an environment where employees can connect, collaborate, grow and succeed.

We are expanding in Australia and New Zealand and are excited for you to join our growing team.
