Information Security Engineer - Linux Administrator with Security Clearance

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Program Mission Support, Engineering & Analysis, and Training. We are seeking a journeyman-level Linux Server Administrator to support the installation, configuration, operation, security, and maintenance of Linux-based systems in a mission-critical Department of Defense environment.

The successful candidate will monitor system performance, troubleshoot technical issues, perform system hardening and patching, manage user access, and maintain system documentation. This position requires full-time, on-site work in Middletown, Rhode Island, and may require occasional travel to customer or program locations. Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux servers, operating systems, and supporting infrastructure.
• Monitor system availability, performance, capacity, security, and resource utilization.
• Diagnose and resolve server hardware, operating system, storage, application, and network connectivity issues.
• Perform operating system patching, software updates, configuration changes, and routine system maintenance.
• Secure and harden Linux systems in accordance with organizational policies, DoD requirements, and applicable Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
• Manage user accounts, groups, permissions, privileged access, authentication, and system audit logs.
• Configure and maintain services such as SSH, DNS, NFS, web services, time synchronization, and centralized logging.
• Support vulnerability scanning, security assessments, compliance reviews, and remediation activities.
• Implement and verify backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and continuity-of-operations procedures.
• Use scripting and automation tools to improve the efficiency and consistency of administrative tasks.
• Assist with incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action implementation.
• Maintain system configuration records, operating procedures, diagrams, inventories, and troubleshooting documentation.
• Coordinate with cybersecurity, network, software, engineering, and customer support teams.
• Participate in scheduled maintenance activities and provide after-hours support when required.
• Travel occasionally to customer or program sites. Qualifications
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Active DoD SECRET security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, engineering, or a related discipline and approximately three years of relevant experience; additional relevant experience, education, or technical training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Journeyman-level experience administering Linux systems in enterprise, engineering, laboratory, or mission-support environments.
• Working knowledge of one or more Linux distributions, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, CentOS, Ubuntu, or SUSE.
• Experience with:
• Linux installation, configuration, patching, and troubleshooting
• User, group, file system, and permissions management
• TCP/IP networking and common network services
• Storage, logical volumes, file systems, and backup operations
• Shell scripting using Bash or a comparable scripting language
• System monitoring, logging, and performance analysis
• Security hardening and vulnerability remediation
• Ability to analyze technical problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a controlled, on-site environment.
• Familarity with undersea platform systems or prior submarine fleet experience is highly desired.
