Control & Systems Engineer
Burton-on-Trent

£48,000 £58,000 DOE
Monday Friday 8:00am 4:00pm 40 hours
We re recruiting for an experienced Control & Systems Engineer to join the engineering team of a well-established, global manufacturing business based in Burton-on-Trent.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in industrial automation, PLCs and control systems who enjoys a mix of hands-on engineering, software development, fault finding and project work.
You ll become a key technical specialist within the site, working on a range of automation, controls and engineering improvement projects taking projects from initial concept and specification through to design, programming, implementation and commissioning.
What you ll be doing
  • Developing, modifying and fault finding PLC and control systems
  • Working extensively with Siemens S7 Simatic Manager and TIA Portal
  • Supporting SCADA systems, PLC interfaces and industrial software integration
  • Programming and fault finding AC and DC drives
  • Delivering automation and control projects from concept through to completion
  • Working hands-on with production machinery, upgrades and new installations
  • Identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and performance
  • Producing designs, software and technical documentation
  • Working alongside Engineering, Production, Quality, R&D, HSE and IT teams
  • Liaising with external suppliers and contractors
  • Providing technical guidance and sharing knowledge with other engineers
What we re looking for
You ll ideally have a HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Controls, Automation, Industrial Software or a related engineering discipline, alongside strong practical experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
You ll need strong knowledge of:
  • Siemens S7
  • TIA Portal
  • Simatic Manager
  • SCADA systems
  • PLC programming and fault finding
  • Industrial automation and control systems
  • AC & DC drives
  • SQL / Access databases
Experience with AutoCAD and data analysis would also be beneficial, while knowledge of WinCC Professional or WinCC Advanced would be a definite advantage.
The role will suit someone who is equally comfortable on the factory floor working directly with machinery as they are developing software or designing systems at a desk.
Some travel to other UK sites will be required, with occasional international travel possible.
