Role: Senior Angular Developer

Location: Buffalo NY (initial 4 weeks remote then onsite)

Position Overview:

We are seeking an extremely strong, hands-on Angular Developer with 7+ years of professional experience to take end-to-end ownership of the application's UI/frontend workstream.

This is a pure Angular/UI-focused position. The ideal candidate must have deep, hands-on experience with modern Angular and the latest stable Angular version, and be capable of taking business requirements and independently converting them into high-quality, production-ready UI code.

The developer will own the frontend/UI implementation, track UI work through JIRA, write and maintain unit test cases, manage source code through GitLab, and work closely with a separate backend team responsible for Python-based microservices and APIs.

Experience with AI-assisted development and GitLab Duo is a plus.

Work Arrangement

• Up to 4 weeks of remote work is permitted at the beginning of the engagement.
• After the initial 4-week period, the position will be fully onsite.
• Candidates must be willing and able to work onsite full-time after the initial remote period.

Key Responsibilities

Angular / UI Development

• Take end-to-end ownership of the Angular/UI workstream.
• Develop enterprise-grade web applications using the latest stable version of Angular.
• Maintain strong awareness of current Angular features, APIs, architecture, and recommended development practices.
• Translate business requirements, functional specifications, and UI/UX designs into production-ready Angular applications.
• Build reusable, scalable, maintainable, and high-quality Angular components.
• Implement Angular routing, forms, validation, services, dependency injection, and UI workflows.
• Develop responsive and accessible enterprise user interfaces.
• Troubleshoot complex Angular/UI issues and drive them through resolution.
• Participate in frontend architecture and technical design decisions.
• Continuously modernize and improve Angular applications as the framework evolves.

Requirements-to-Code Ownership

• Analyze requirements and independently determine the appropriate Angular implementation.
• Convert requirements into UI components, workflows, screens, and technical tasks.
• Identify requirement gaps and clarify functional expectations with product and business teams.
• Estimate UI development effort and track work through completion.
• Take responsibility for delivering complete, production-ready functionality.
• Ensure the implementation accurately reflects business requirements and UX expectations.

JIRA & Work Tracking

• Manage and track UI development activities using JIRA.
• Break requirements into actionable development tasks and subtasks.
• Provide estimates and maintain accurate task status.
• Track UI dependencies, blockers, defects, risks, and integration issues.
• Maintain clear visibility into UI progress and deliverables.
• Proactively identify issues that may impact delivery timelines and drive them toward resolution.
• Coordinate UI activities with product, UX/UI, QA, backend, and DevOps teams.

Unit Testing & Quality

• Develop comprehensive unit test cases for Angular applications.
• Create tests covering functional, negative, edge, and error scenarios.
• Maintain and improve unit-test coverage.
• Ensure new Angular functionality is adequately tested before delivery.
• Troubleshoot failing tests and resolve defects.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards for code quality and maintainability.

GitLab

• Use GitLab for source control and collaborative development.
• Follow appropriate branching, commit, merge request, and code-review practices.
• Create and manage merge requests for Angular changes.
• Participate in peer code reviews.
• Resolve merge conflicts and maintain clean source-control practices.
• Work with established GitLab CI/CD processes where applicable.

AI-Assisted Development

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve developer productivity and code quality is preferred.
• Experience with GitLab Duo is a strong plus.
• Use AI-assisted tools appropriately for activities such as:
  • Code generation
  • Unit-test generation
  • Code explanation
  • Refactoring
  • Debugging
  • Documentation
• Review and validate AI-generated code to ensure it meets application architecture, security, quality, and coding standards.

Backend & Microservices Integration

• Work closely with the backend team responsible for Python-based microservices.
• Integrate Angular applications with REST APIs and backend services.
• Understand API contracts, request/response structures, authentication requirements, and service dependencies.
• Collaborate with backend developers to ensure APIs adequately support frontend requirements.
• Track frontend/backend dependencies and proactively resolve integration blockers.
• Coordinate with backend developers when API changes impact the Angular application.
• Troubleshoot UI/API integration issues jointly with the backend team.
• Use mock or test APIs when backend services are not yet available.

Production Support

• Take ownership of Angular/UI issues from identification through resolution.
• Troubleshoot production UI and API integration issues.
• Work with backend, QA, DevOps, and product teams to resolve end-to-end issues.
• Support application releases and post-release UI validation.
• Continuously improve UI quality, performance, usability, and maintainability.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software/web development experience.
• Extremely strong, hands-on Angular experience.
• Strong experience with the latest stable versions of Angular and modern Angular development practices.
• Deep understanding of Angular application architecture.
• Strong experience with Angular components, services, routing, forms, validation, dependency injection, and lifecycle management.
• Proven ability to convert requirements directly into production-quality Angular code.
• Strong experience building enterprise-scale Angular applications.
• Strong HTML and CSS skills for professional UI development.
• Experience integrating Angular applications with REST APIs.
• Experience working with backend teams and microservices-based applications.
• Strong experience creating and maintaining Angular unit tests.
• Hands-on experience with JIRA.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab, including merge requests and collaborative development.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver UI work from requirements through production.

Collaboration Model

The Senior Angular Developer will be the primary technical owner of the UI layer while working closely with the backend/Python microservices team.

Business Requirements → JIRA → Angular Design & Development → Unit Testing → GitLab Review → API Integration → QA → Production

The backend team owns the Python services and backend implementation. The Angular Developer owns the Angular implementation, UI quality, frontend work tracking, unit testing, GitLab workflow, and frontend/backend integration coordination.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an extremely hands-on Angular specialist who stays current with the latest Angular releases and can independently take a requirement and turn it into a complete, tested, production-ready UI solution.

They should be able to:
