Robotics Field Service Technician

Job Overview

Contoro Robotics is seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Robotics Field Service Technician to support our autonomous robotic unloading systems deployed at a customer warehouse in Buena Park, CA.

This role will serve as Contoro's primary on-site technical resource, responsible for diagnosing complex robotic system issues, performing root-cause analysis, troubleshooting integrated mechanical, electrical, controls, and software systems, and implementing solutions to maintain system reliability and minimize downtime.

The ideal candidate is an experienced robotics or automation technician who can work independently in a live customer environment, exercise strong technical judgment, and communicate effectively with both customer personnel and Contoro's engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and robotic system issues.

• Perform root-cause analysis and determine appropriate corrective actions and escalation paths.

• Diagnose and repair issues involving sensors, motors, robotic arms, electrical and pneumatic systems, PLCs, HMIs, and servo drives.

• Analyze system logs, diagnostic data, schematics, and technical documentation.

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, calibrations, component replacement, and operational readiness checks.

• Support system upgrades, modifications, software/firmware updates, testing, and validation.

• Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and uptime.

• Document technical issues, repairs, root causes, and corrective actions through field reports and Jira tickets.

• Serve as Contoro's on-site technical representative and maintain professional communication with customer operations and technical teams.

• Coordinate with Contoro's remote engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues.

• Maintain on-site spare parts and technical resources.

• Follow all Contoro and customer-site safety requirements, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and required PPE.

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Robotics, Automation Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant technical experience.

• 3+ years of experience in robotics, automation, industrial equipment, field service, or a related technical environment.

• Strong experience troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical systems.

• Ability to independently diagnose technical problems and perform root-cause analysis.

• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer-service skills.

• Ability to work independently at a customer site with limited direct supervision.

• Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.

• Experience with warehouse automation or autonomous robotic systems.

• Experience with industrial robot arms such as KUKA, FANUC, or similar.

• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, sensors, motor controls, and 480VAC systems.

• Familiarity with Linux, ROS, command-line interfaces, Jira, and robotic system logs.

Physical & Work Requirements

• This position works on-site at a customer warehouse and is not eligible for remote work.

• Ability to work in an active warehouse environment that may not be climate controlled.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and work in and around industrial robotic equipment.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to comply with all customer-site security, safety, PPE, and operational requirements.

• Ability to provide occasional after-hours, weekend, or on-call support based on customer and operational needs.

Employment Details

This position will begin as a temporary-to-hire position directly employed by Contoro Robotics, with the potential for conversion to regular ongoing employment based on performance and business needs.
