The Role

• Interpret engineering drawings and prepare plate materials using cutting and grinding techniques.
• Assemble ship structures, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding of components.
• Fabricate various ship items including seats, ladders, flooring, and watertight doors.
• Operate machine tools like guillotines, croppers, and rolling equipment to form materials.
• Work collaboratively within teams to produce high-quality steelwork for essential defence projects.

What You'll Need

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds).
• Up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Understanding and application of core manufacturing processes, including tack welding.
• Confident and responsible operation of oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
• Adherence to SHE principles, risk assessment, and safety protocols.
• Experience working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant certifications.
